What an Alonso race, this was his style all over, keep it clean and consistent, don't worry about what is happening immediately over the long game, but have enough to push when the time comes.
Even without the bad stop for Vettel I still think Alonso would've had caught up and past him. The Ferrari easily pulled away from the redbull once Alonso was out ahead, I think Alonso's times were faster than Vettel's after his third stop on fresher tyres?
He was setting fastest lap after fastest lap, shortly after re-passing Hamilton on the 2nd stint (soft tyres). Caught up to Webber and Vettel (Webber was catching Vettel at this point I think?) for the second stop, where he had already leapfrogged Webber (Hamilton had as well by pitting earlier than the others) so Alonso went into his stop just after Vettel.

Some good racing, pity most of Schumacher's overakes were missed.

I think the DRS ruined the close track action here, we saw plenty of drivers wheel to wheel in the other zones, only for them to get to the DRS zone where the driver in front simply zoomed past.

Pity for Button, massive chicken up from McLaren there, and the fuel issue. Are they suffering without Pat Fry perhaps?

I don't think Hamilton's contact with Massa was his fault, if anything Massa should've aimed for a cleaner pass there and given Hamilton slightly more room, lucky for Hamilton that the contact benefited him though.

Championship might be over though, if Webber has to defer to Vettel, and its Ferrari rather than McLaren chasing redbull.

Gratz the Ferrari International again.just when you think they're out of it,FIA do something to put them back on the pace.Whole thing is a farce.
Other than that what great race, superb drive from Lewis and Alonso to be fair.Looks like theres a couple of teams near the front that will be in for a few practice pit stops next week. :hehe:
Felt sorry for DiResta after that bad stop, would of been interesting to see how high/if he would of finished.
Kobayashi unlucky to be taken out by the dirty german(well he has to take someone out each week  )

Haha MIchael is officially the 2011 Crash King. Every weekend he seems to lose his front wing...lucky Merc has a healthy budget to keep a number of spares for the old man.

Merc should give a call to Koba in the offseason and get him to replace Crash King. They could actually bother the top 3 with a lineup featuring Britney and Kamui.

:hehe: Schumacher seems to get into contact every race,

Still it looks like Kobayashi had to take the blame for the pitstop, I heard the commentary team say the lollipop was down.

My overview of the race; I just copied and pasted my blog entry on the race; I don't want to write it all again in a different way specially for the forum!

Lewis Hamilton finished best of the Brits at Silverstone in fourth place but only just; having a battle, banging wheels with Felipe Massa through the final complex of corners eventually pushing the Brazilian wide. Jenson Button was in a solid fifth place when McLaren dropped the ball and released Jenson with a missing wheel nut on his right front wheel which ultimately resulted in Jenson retiring from the race. The third Brit, Paul Di Resta finished in 15th after starting from sixth with a colossal cock-up with his first pit stop, Sutil’s tyres were ready instead of Di Resta’s own tyres which cost him a bucket load of time. Despite the disappointing result for the Brits; we had our fourth different winner this year; and it’s yet another former world champion, Fernando Alonso. I’m no Alonso or Ferrari fan but I am happy to see someone other than Sebastian Vettel win and Alonso drove a fantastic race and had a little bit of luck in the form of Vettel having a troubled pit stop allowing the Spaniard to leapfrog the German. But the Ferrari looked like the car to beat today and would have more than likely won without that fortuitous piece of luck!

So the top 10 is as follows, 1. Alonso, 2. Vettel, 3. Webber, 4 Hamilton, 5 Massa, 6. Rosberg, 7. Perez, 8. Heidfeld, 9. Schumacher, 10. Alguersuari. Great drive from Sergio Perez starting from 12th to finish in seventh and had a great midfield battle with Maldonado. Another good drive came from Alguersuari to come from 18th on the grid to claim a point but that said; Kobayashi and Button retiring helped his cause. A good race overall, plenty of action despite disappointment for the British fans, Jenson’s Silverstone curse strikes again, try for the podium again next year JB!

A big talking point of the race was Mark Webber being told to “hold station” when catching team mate Vettel hand over fist. Mark is understandably annoyed being asked to hold station despite being faster given how Red Bull insist that there are no team orders in the Red Bull team. If there was any doubt that Vettel is clear #1 at Red Bull before; there has to be no question now and I’d be surprised if Webber remains at Red Bull next season! Webber actively chose to not adhere to his teams wishes and attacked Vettel anyway before backing off slightly in the final half lap.

I’m really disappointed with Jenson Button in this race; despite his McLaren team causing his retirement he should have been higher than his starting position of fifth. Hamilton overtook him in the first few laps on the track starting five place behind. Being a JB fan I have vehemently defended him against the barrage of criticism coming from Hamilton fans but with performances like this; it’s getting harder to defend JB when he and Hamilton are driving identical equipment!

Lewis Hamilton could have finished the race; possibly on the second step of the podium based on his early pace but it wasn’t to be as he was let down by McLaren who didn’t fuel his car enough and had to start conserving fuel half way through the race. But I have to say that his interview technique after the race was much improved; I have been very critical of his post race interviews and general attitude but this weekend we’ve seen a massive change, I assume that McLaren team principle Martin Whitmarsh must have had a word in his ear, basically telling him to tone it down!

Despite the FIA’s shambolic handling of the off throttle diffuser ban (which has now been abandoned for the season); it didn’t completely ruin the Silverstone race weekend; you have to say that British race fans are the best in the world, no other circuit touches the atmosphere of Silverstone. Also well done to Damon Hill and the BRDC for the great Silverstone redesign and new pit and paddock area (but I do miss Priory and Bridge), although it’s going to take me some time to get used to not having Copse as the first corner followed by Maggots, Becketts and Chapel.

So nothing changes in the championship tables; Vettel extends his world championship lead to 80 points over Mark Webber while Fernando Alonso moves into third spot with a massive 92 point deficit to the German. Hamilton goes level on points with team mate Button in 4th place, 95 points off the world championship lead. With half the season gone; unless Red Bull implode; Vettel will retain his world title, having only dropped 21 points in the first nine races and Red Bull will retain their constructors title currently enjoying a 110 point lead over McLaren and 164 over Ferrari.

Finally it was great to hear Murray Walker in the commentary box in qualifying, particularly commenting over Mark Webber’s hot lap in qualifying, I grew up listening to Murray’s commentary of motorsport, some have likened Murray’s voice to that of a V12 engine. His passion for Formula 1 is what make his commentary so great, it was a great shame when he retired. Martin Brundle and David Coulthard do a great job but even they admit that Murray is the king of F1 commentary.

Great race from Alonso - Ferrari seem to have been the big winners in the off-throttle blown diffuser debacle but there's no doubt that Alonso made the most of Ferrari's new-found pace. Massa, not so much, but then he was possibly screwed by his team leaving him out too long on fading tyres. Let's see if they can maintain the improvement once full EBD is reinstated.

McLaren's botched pit-stop with Button was disgraceful but I'm not sure that you can count Hamilton's short-fuelling as another mistake. With both the Red Bulls and Ferraris over a second up the road in qualifying, under-fuelling was maybe the only way they could see to be in contention near the end. I think they gambled on a slower pace at the start - and lost. It would be interesting to see the comparative fuel loads of Lewis and Jenson. Button's early pace could have been compromised by carrying more fuel than Hamilton.

Red Bull's "team orders" were puzzling, unless they were afraid of a coming together on the last lap, although I can't see Vettel defending too robustly with the championship lead he has. It would have done Webber a power of good to take one over Vettel which has to be good for the team as a whole. Instead, they've probably alienated him further. If Webber gets that close to Vettel again I can see a messy overtaking attempt coming up.

Finally, the bipolar track conditions made for an exciting spectacle. Maybe Bernie's not so far out with his sprinklers idea? (Joke)

Hamilton was the driver of the week for me.
Team screws him in qualy,P10.
First 3-4 laps makes up 5-6 spots.
Holds a Faster RB behind him for an ETERNITY.
Holds 4th place in a mano a mano fight to the finish.

Pretty well summed up there mate.Only thing i might say is was Webber making it look good behind Seb with no intention of getting passed?.
But the main point you hit on is the new circuit.Gotta agree it's going to take some getting used to.I personally think bridge was one of the best corners in F1.To stand near it and see the cars go flat in 6th,then cut back for a sharp left was awesome, was one of the true areas to see just what an F1 car can do.

I believe that Webber wanted to pass but wasn't going to take an unnecessary risks to make a move; like Vettel did in Turkey 2010, Webber can't win the race if he's out of the race!

Well i guess i got what i wanted and that was Vettel not winning the race :hehe:

Shame with what happend with Lewis but i hoenstly dont think Mclaren believed they would be that competitive throughout the race and it was a shame that Lewis couldnt push to try and catch the Redbulls...and the whole incident with Button during the pitstop wasnt the best moment for me but it happens sometimes (was quiet a few mess ups today during pit-stops not just with the Mclaren team)

Well done to Alonso (that hurts me to say that) but he raced well and flew around the track

The whole incident with Webber and Vettel is not something i like to see....'maintain the gap' yeah didnt like that one bit...but i could understand it from Christian Horners point of view...but for us fans i always wanna see the driver pushing for a win right until the very end

This race weekend for me has had its highs and lows but there is no mistaking that I WANNA BE AT SILVERSTONE IN 2012!!! need to get some friends that have good taste in sport :hehe:

And for all of you lucky people that was there i hope you enjoyed every minute of it :)
