Jenson must bring something useful to the table for Williams, Renault, BAR, Honda, Brawn and McLaren. Is JB the fastest driver? NO! Is JB the best development driver? NO! Is JB the most marketable driver? NO! But he does do most things well and brings decent results on [most] race days; he's like the complete package for teams when you combine speed, development and marketability. This is why he has been in F1 for 15 years; he wouldn't be getting paid $15m if McLaren thought he was useless as some people make him out to be!

Jenson brings a lot to any team. However he doesnt bring something in particular to the top teams, which is an ability to lead a team and win titles despite not having the best car. He is not that type of coveted driver in the Alonso Lewis or Seb mode - a game changer that is able to get results beyond normal. The others bring time to the car, Jensons skills are more in bring consistent points and making no mistakes or taking big risks. This is something good for some teams, however I think the only issue anyone has ever had with Jenson is when at a top team like McLaren, he is suddenly promoted beyond his contributions and even worse, at the expense of a more traditional 'top talent driver' and actually tries to pretend it is so

This is not necessarily his own fault. He has lots he brings to teams but the Peter principle seems to work on track as well

Before the usual moaners start complaining, try to note that this is a response to a current post. If you heard any part of it before, dont whinge, just ignore it

I can agree that Jenson is unable to manhandle an underperforming car up the grid; he needs a good car underneath him to win races and like Lewis said; it gets harder each and every year to get results; let's face it, Jenson is no spring duck. I think that Jenson still has a lot of racecraft to teach younger drivers; which could be a balancing influence on Magnussen; add some control to the gungho attitude. Jenson has never been a charger, but on his day he can beat anyone, unfortunately he hasn't had too many days like that, sticking with BAR/Honda didn't help that situation!

I think another string to Jensons bow which is also a good thing for a driver, is he could read the potential of a team. Unfortunately he got moved on before he saw the fruits of his labour.

Look at Williams he joined them on the rise with BMW then got moved on for Montoya. He moved to Renault and got moved on for Alonso, He joined BAR/Honda/Brawn at they where on the rise (To be fair BAR did not anywhere else to fall...Earth car *shudder) He then got replaced by Schumacher.

Mclaren had a lot of potential when the contract was signed. However absorbing 100M fine and loosing it's figurehead (Ron ) eroded that potential.

To be fair apart from the Williams contract problems he has kept his nose clean with scandels.

I agree he is an effective driver in a mid to back of grid team, whereas in a top team at the heights he is like a duck out of water. This totally ties in with why he ends up at a top team on its way down or at a mid to low grid team before they rise

The F1 bosses are not stupid, well, except 1 who is no longer a team boss

Don't discount Jenson for 2015; JB is very popular in Japan and with the Honda engines and rumoured $40m sponsorship deal with Rakuten (Play.com, Buy.com), his stock will be up.

His age could work against that theory. The target for these sponsors are likely to be a younger driver and maybe Japanese. He will have to do very very well this year to stay in Rons plans - history tells us this

Another factor in JB's future is how little $$$ he is willing to accept. Someone like Hulkenberg could swoop in and grab the drive if the price is too steep. I don't see Ron paying JB $15m when he let LH go because of his salary demands.
