Perez will race if Carlos Slim wants him to race. There's a GP of Mexico City on the calendar next year is there not? The McLaren can very well be sporting Telmex sidepods soon.

Which is a very good reason for keeping Perez, who is in contracted anyway. And contrary to the opinions
of some, I don't think he's done too bad. He's no team leader......yet, but given the chance, he can race. McLaren are lacking a team leader, who knows how to win and can drag the car along when things aren't perfect.........but Whitmarsh, I don't think, will go out looking for a driver like that........or will he? Why hasn't he confirmed Button? Is he being pressured to take the Hulk? McLaren wanted the Hulk when Whitmarsh over rode them and took Perez. Oh how interesting and fascinating is all this!!

Maybe Whitmarsh and Button should be given the boot, and then McLaren can hope for much better times to come.

:hehe: well that was my preferred course of action a couple of years ago. Now lets play a little game. Assuming Ron won't come back, who would you choose to run the team and who would the drivers be from the currently available ones?

I'd take the Hulk like a shot, maybe give Perez another year and reasses after that. Ross would be the best TP, but I don't want him to leave Merc.........so I'll have a little think about that one.

I'll tell you what will make McLaren an overnight threat (and a serious one). If they have the balls to go for Flavio Briatore to take over from Wimpy Whitmarsh, and bring over a serious driver to replace Lame-O and be a proper guide for Perez...none other than....

Nah, kidding. Though it won't hurt. Good PR to even out the return of the Flav (lol), but really no driver has proven to be solid enough to take over from Button if we discount the top 4 teams who are pretty much set. Maybe Di Resta, even if he's a whiner....he's definitely way more motivated and quicker.

Does that mean that everyone has pretty much given up on Perez?

I think he's done alright for himself, seeing as where the McLaren is/was...

No, I said I'd give him another year, see how he stacks up against the Hulk. No shenanigans and place swapping in the pits. I think he's ok.

IMO once McLaren settle down with the Honda engine, they are going to be the team to beat. It may not happen in 2015 when they get the engine for the first time but by 2016 I am sure they will be the dominant car.

A lot of drivers - Vettel & Hamilton for example, are contracted up to the end of 2015. the 2016 market will be interesting.

I hope so!

Would love to see a McLaren-Honda resurgence!

Perez has had his chance and has proven to be nothing special. Time for new blood in the 2nd McLaren seat.

Well seeing as he is half way through his 2 yr contract, I'd say he is only half way through his chance.

And, if McLaren follows the Ferrari route, there might even be an extension in there, somewhere!! :P

Actually, more like quarter way through his chance.

I think he's proven he's definitely got more raw speed and aggression compared to his journeyman teammate...the challenge is to control his aggression. It's something you can learn quickly (Lewis) or never learn and fail miserably (Montoya). Time will tell....but in terms of potential he is without doubt the better driver to have in the team.

The one where he walked into a camera and then managed to get held back by his 80 pound gf? No thanks. :D
