I disagree they don't need to pretend their fighting for the championship, their better of with focusing on winning the race, someone like Alonso will be thinking of the championship when it comes to wheel to wheel racing. Hulkenburg is better of not doing that IMO.

Bit like Force India designing a car last year thats great on low downforce, they don't need an all round car, as the glory from Spa and Monza probably worked out greater than if they spent the entire year consistent but at the lower end of the field.

Also, evening though Hulkenburg was obviously trying very hard, you can't recreate the pressure that the championship contenders are feeling.

None of that stops it being an exceptional performance today. But I wonder what will happen in the race, Hulkenburg didn't seem to cope very well with holding of Webber in Monza.

Excellent qualifying session! This year just keeps getting better.

For me the biggest winner is F1.

So great to see Williams, through the Hunk, get pole. I can't say how good I think this is. After all the effort and concessions given to add 6 mobile chicanes to the grid this year, Williams, proves what a decent team, with the correct pedigree and building blocks can do. More teams and less sponsors this year just made their job even harder. My hats off to them.

Also great to see the Hulk, with so much doubt being cast on his future by the media, performing so well. Class effort. Hope he has whatever luck he needs to convert this into, at very least, a podium.

From the championship point of view, also an excellent result. All the real contenders are next to each other. Let's hope that they all finish and their positions are from the teams merits and not from accidents.

Of course being Tifosi, I would have preferred to see both red cars much closer to the front, but, it will just add to the race excitement and I'm still hoping for good results from both cars. As Fernando says, we prefer to win on Sundays. The race will be a challenge and I'm sure Felipe will be trying to pass as many cars as early as possible and Fernando will be doing his best to pressure the cars ahead.

Can't wait for the race.

Forza Ferrari!

It rained like heck so it kind of neutralises both sides I think. Actually the racing line can prove to be a bit of a disadvantage due to the rubbery side of the track become slippy. But not enough to be significant I would think.

It is going to be a very tense 1st corner tomorrow. Very tense! I'm backing 2nd, 3rd, 4th to make it through and hoping 5th is KO'ed at the first corner. E-beers on me if that happens. :D

Well I can tell you right now it's not going to be close to how they qualified. Especially when you have 2 Redbulls side by side and a slow car to pass on a slippery track.

I agree, but I need something to do for the next 13 hours and at this point speculation is the only thing we have!!

Wasn't it just! I've just finished watching it on iplayer and what another great qualifying session this season! The highlight for me was williams' first pole in 5 years and what a great lap and maybe this was what Frank was talking about being impressed by Nico. And by 1.1 seconds as well! I noticed that Barrichello and Hulkenburg were increasingly quick during the session but never expected something like this! I just wanted to see Frank Williams' reaction for he has won many races and world championships before but that will be a special moment and hopefully a sign of Williams becoming a front running team once more.

I think Hamilton is gutted that ultimately a slower car was faster than the red bulls by over a second in conditions that he excels in but also glad that he has Alonso behind him and let's see how he deals with the pressure.

The Red Bulls were obviously going to be strong but beaten by an inferior car in the most dramatic fashion. I'm sure they will be expecting to overtake Nico on the start and whether they'll be let just to do battle between one and other (Seb and Mark) or whether the pit guys will be saying, look we can win the WCC, don't take each other out!

In fact this reminds me of Brasil 1999 when Barrichello in the stewart ford got pole position against the likes of the Ferraris and McLarens. Let's just hope that Nico doesen't break down like Rubens did :L

Just checked and Rubinho qualified third that race. Still impressive. It was coincidentally his 100th race entry. Don't you just love it how these numbers coincidentally come up?

And as we know Brazil conjures up (and has done already) many suprises and hopefully this race will be no exception.

Please let this be a classic and let the championship be open right down to the wire at Abu Dhabi!
