From F1 Live:

Mosley does not support 2010 refuelling ban
Admits to mistake with the current points system

Mosley keen on the spectacle of fuel stops
Max Mosley has revealed that he is not personally in favour of F1's impending ban on in-race refuelling in 2010.

Although part of the recent suite of cost-cutting reforms agreed between the FIA and the F1 teams' alliance FOTA, it is believed that the ban is essentially designed to compel drivers to do their overtaking on the track rather than through varying fuel strategies.

It is also hoped banning refuelling will make race strategies easier to understand, as well as lessen the danger of tyre pit stops.

"I was not in favour of the ban, because I think it is a good part of the show," Mosley, President of F1's governing body, told Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport.

He said he was relieved that drivers will at least continue to stop to change their tyres, making pit stops in the future more of a straight race between the teams' pit crews.

"At least we have prevented a situation as in the 80s, when at the start of the race the drivers did not fight at all because they were saving their tyres and brakes," Mosley said.

The 68-year-old Briton said he also supports the move to conduct market research into whether the points system should be replaced by Bernie Ecclestone's 'medals' proposal.

Mosley admitted: "The extension of points down to eighth and the reduction in the difference between first and second was an error.

"But I am opposed to frequently changing the points system, because it only confuses people."

I agree with Mosley about the fuel stops, but all of this sounds like he is backtracking. If the points system concerns him, he should simply make a win worth, say, 11 points.

yeh i was abit disappointed with the refueling ban perhaps it will get recended and yeh your right about the win make it 12 so its a real bonous but you can still come 2nd and 3rd with a few wins and get the championship

with the medals your just going to see very messy inconsitant driving which could get boring if there's alot of mistakes because of the pressure.

From autosport.com:

Ecclestone insists on points system change

By Jonathan Noble and Pablo Elizalde Thursday, January 15th 2009, 16:35 GMT

Bernie Ecclestone is still hoping for a change to the points system in Formula One so the driver with the most race wins is the world champion.

The Formula One supremo has been pushing for the introduction of an Olympics-style medal system into the sport, so the driver with the most medals takes the title.

On Thursday Ecclestone said it did not matter if F1 used medals or not, but the Briton insisted the system should benefit the race winners more.

"Forget the word 'medals', I think the guy that wins the most races should win the championship," Ecclestone told reporters at Ferrari's ski retreat.

"I don't think the guy who is second with a lot of points should be a world champion, that is all. I hope, upon hope, that the idea of the winner being champion will mean the drivers will race to win.

"This year a lot of them sat there being second and they didn't try to win because it was only worth two points. It is not worth the risk."

He added: "It is up to the teams to push it through. They have all entered the championship and it is a change of regulations, so we would need them to agree. I hope they have enough sense to agree."

Lewis Hamilton won the title last year having won four races, while his main rival Felipe Massa finished second despite scoring five victories.

It seems as though Ecclestone thinks we are fools. The majority of the Formula One community are not unhappy with Ecclestone's ideas only because medals instead of trophies will be given out on the podium. They are also unhappy with the idea because the points system itself is absolutely absurd.

Look I think he has a point.
The current point system does not force drivers to have to go for the lead.
But this could be sorted by increasing the win points to 12, thus opening the gap back open.

Bernie is quite the man though. I've been reading about his business techniques :hehe:

I think every time a driver makes a pass, his race engineer should have to take a shot of scotch.

I think in Piquet's case there'll have to be a party held in the Renault garage everytime he overtakes somebody, it's not likely he'll be doing much more this year than he did last year. :P

Yay!!! That way I could call him Sir Douche.:wink:

When he held business meetings, instead of getting up and going into the next room to let his party come to a decision, Bernie would show them to another room, go back into the meeting room and raid the bin to find their notes, then read them.

Clever man
