But he LEADS this team!!! Yes he's doing something about the pitstops and hopefully thats good and things will improve. But for a team that have been in the game as long as Mclaren this years performance has been woefull. Whitmarsh should be encouraging radical strategy and competition between his racers not settling for mediocrity. I dont know if he relies too heavily on the rule book, on computers or what it is. Even without the pitstop bungles Mclaren's time for pitstops is well below halfway down the grid. Red Bull have been in the game in a blink of an eye comparitively and they dont screw up like this. No Whitmarsh does not endeer himself to me, but my dislike aside I dont think he's doing a capable job of running the show. Believe it or not I liked him when he took over and thought he'd do a good job, it took till halfway through last year for the disillusionment to set in. The thing is Mclaren are still hanging in there as my favourite team, so its very frustrating. He needs to stop playing games and go racing.

As I said, ultimately Ron Dennis is still in charge of the team, he can overrule Whitmarsh at any time should he wish to; I believe Whitmarsh is doing a reasonable job, I believe he lets his drivers and engineers do their jobs, I don't hear Whitmarsh on the radio dictating things. I believe the issue is McLaren's centralised philosophy; it worked better when there was two distinct sides of the garage, when it comes to drivers, it's not a team effort, each driver (even more so with two former world champions) wants to beat the other, the centralised idea hinders that somewhat!

Yes. I absolutely agree about the centralised philosophy!!

They don't have the Time to run the simulator as much as the test drivers...

Lewis & Jenson don't have the time to run the simulator as much as the test drivers do, because they can only spend 183 days or an average of 91 days over 4 years in the U.K
so that they can continue to dodge their taxes :nono:
#302412
So going to Mugello would have been a welcome tax dodge :hehe:
You could add a few other drivers to the list of tax dodgers
#302413
Di Resta, Massa, Kimi, Vettel, basically anyone who lives in Monaco or Switzerland, which is the vast majority of F1 drivers.

Going to Mugello YES
spending day after day in the simulator NO

Coulthard' the other that springs to mind
I Don't know where DiResta lives either

But Mark Webber lives in the U.K and pays his tax I believe

Yes Mark does live in the UK. And has a lovely garden, a pub near Silverstone and a rescued donkey, all brownie points in my book! Thouh he's still an expat.
Agree about Mugello, the race drivers should have gone....to drive on the track...NOT always in the simulator.
I think most F1 drivers will select a 'home' most suitable to their needs at the time, and we cant really blame any of them for that.

It seems Mark Webber is of the same mind as me...

"It was an absolute no-brainer for [us both] to be here," said Webber. "There was never any consideration that the race drivers wouldn't come to this test.

"Mileage is so limited these days that's its good for me to be in the car. Any chance we get to drive the car in the real world, we'll do it."

Which pub does Mark own? I'd love have a few pints in there some day. :)
