If people want to discuss controversial things then don't do that in the "Support" thread. Here's a simple rule to apply, is what I'm about to post something I would like said about my favourite team/driver? If the answers isn't clearly yes, then create a separate/new topic for that item and discuss it there.

Right now we are all adjusting to this new process, mods included. But I think we are getting the gist of it. So we can start applying this a little more diligently.

I see a couple of people asking questions due to faulty memories and answers provided (truth n facts) to those questions.

Since Jabbers post and its responses, there hasnt been 1 post supporting Button. Just posts complaining about the responses to Jabbers positive post.
So if there are only positive posts once every few months and only positive responses we could be luck if the thread adds another day by the time he retires

Understand your thinking cookin, but please try to understand what we are trying to achieve here. We want fans to have a thread for their favorite team/driver where they can share positively about their favorite. Without feeling they have to defend them.

Try and apply the thinking I suggested earlier. Would you like those comments directed at your favourite team/driver? If you think you (or any other fan) would NOT like the comment, then it probably doesn't belong in the "support" thread. It does NOT mean you can't post it, just don't post it in the "support" thread. Instead, create a new topic on the subject matter.

WOKING - McLaren boss Ron Dennis sang the praises of his Formula One driver line-up on Thursday and detected echoes of Ayrton Senna in Jenson Button's relationship with the team.

"In many ways there are similarities between Ayrton and Jenson," the 66-year-old group chief executive told reporters at a pre-season briefing at the McLaren factory in southern England.

"He is an incredibly good human being. He has principles and values. And the way that he conducts his life and his relationship with this team is right up there with some of the other great drivers who have been with us."

Brazilian Senna won his three titles with McLaren before he was killed at the wheel of a Williams in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. His death remains the last of a driver during a Formula One race weekend.

Button, the 2009 world champion with Brawn GP, is starting his fifth year with McLaren and has a new teammate in Danish rookie Kevin Magnussen following the departure of Mexican Sergio Perez.

The Briton's contract is up for renewal at the end of the season, when McLaren are switching from Mercedes engines to Honda power.

Dennis said Button, the most experienced driver on the starting grid in a career that dates back to 2000, was as fit as any rival and was also highly intelligent.

"Intelligence is going to become an absolute pre-requisite to cope with the complications drivers have in the car, the fuel management and tyre management...it is going to require brainpower and dedication," he added.

"And then he's quick. He is capable of winning races and world championships...I'm extremely optimistic and I think he will be an incredible mentor to Kevin."

That is now two key people that have given well earned support to Jenson and his chances this year. (Ron and Allan McNish). I tend to agree that Jenson's ability to read and conserve will be well suited to the new era of F1. If McLaren can provide him with a competitive car (and that looks the case) I expect him to be challenging.

Every year we all hope the regs or tyres etc will coincide with Buttons precise window of excellence. It's always said 'this will suit Button' or Buttons style will be trumps. Ofcourse some of the other drivers expected to struggle never do because they suddenly find the new regs also suits them and so things stay the same
Mind you, this seasons changes are as big as the double diffuser year and so maybe it's Jensons year afterall. It will have to be to repay Ron's faith and investment in him

Button is a good driver. he isn't terrible. He doesnt need any luck as he is quick enough.

I think Ron Dennis made those comments for a couple of reasons!
First, as RC already stated, he can't really be negative about his
current drivers; but, having seen/heard some other comments
from him, I'm going to suggest that's not all there is to it!!

I don't see how he would compare Button to one of the greatest
drivers of all time, if he didn't actually believe what he's saying.
From what I've read about Senna, his name is hallowed by all who
knew him, raced with/against him, were fans of his.

Just of out curiousity, has Ron Dennis compared Hamilton to Senna?
I ask because I was curious and googled it; but, the only thing that
comes up is other people making the comparison!

Judging from some of the comments Sergio made pre-season, I doubt if he gave Button much of a chance at mentoring.

I think the statements are free of any ambiguity, the comparison he's making about the two have nothing to do with their "driving" it's about they conduct themselves within the team environment.

Meaning Jenson went to McLaren and quickly had the engineers following him and his direction, because... well because he's such a likeable guy. The only wrinkle is they followed him to their worst season in 33 year. I'm confident both Jenson and McLaren will do better this year.

I'd agree with that to a certain extent. Martin was the boss, the buck should stop with him, and things awry underneath him are due to his inability to manage people and situations. But do you not think button bears some responsibility for leading the team in the wrong direction and for exploiting the TP's failings?

When you build a car to suit a certain driver's preferences, input and requirements you get that car.
