Flight attendant from Essen says he was filming his girlfriend on slopes and captured Schumacher's accident in background

A new witness account of Michael Schumacher's skiing accident in the French Alps last Sunday has emerged, confirming suggestions that the former Formula One champion was not travelling very fast when the crash took place.

A skier told the news magazine Der Spiegel that Schumacher had been going "at a leisurely pace … 20 kmh [12mph] max, not more".

The witness, a 35-year-old flight attendant from Essen, Germany, said he had stopped to film his girlfriend on his smartphone and accidentally captured Schumacher a few hundred metres away straying into an off-piste area and losing his balance.

The man said he planned to hand the evidence to the Albertville prosecutor's office in France, which is investigating the accident on the Méribel slopes.

Tells media it's important 'to ease the burden on doctors'

Michael Schumacher's wife says the racing legend's family wants to be left in peace as doctors treat him after a brutal ski crash.

Corinna Schumacher spoke out Tuesday for the first time since her husband's Dec. 29 accident in the French Alps. In a statement, she said: "It's very important to me that you ease the burden on the doctors and the hospital so that they can do their work in peace."

She asked the international media who have gathered at the hospital in Grenoble to leave. "Please also leave our family alone."...

I wonder if she would prefer the red army to go home as well

She did single out the "media".

Here's what the family has to say about the Tifosi (posted earlier)

A message from Micheal's family posted on his official website....

We are overwhelmed!

The incredible sympathies shown today by the Ferrari Fans outside the hospital has utterly overwhelmed us and moved us all to tears. We are deeply grateful for it and also for all the heartwarming and heartfelt wishes for Michael to get well soon, which have reached us from all over the world.

The Ferrari Tifosi (I'm going to assume that's to whom you are referring :P ) didn't overstay their welcome.
The media did!

I don't get it, why is a state prosecutor involved with the police investigation of Michael's accident. Why is there a police investigation in the first place? The guy was skiing, there are witnesses and his GoPro recorded the fall... why have re-enactments? Geez, it's a f@cking weird thing that happens in life and they're called accidents.

All I'm hoping for him now is to get through this with the best possible outcome for him and his family, but it's as if the circus around this, the "investigation" and half crap people post in so called support is for our entertainment more than it is out of any real concern.

It's standard in Europe with accidents like this, they are looking to find out if it was the resorts fault in any way, and if so what can be done by this resort and other around Europe to avoid it. It's not really a prosecution per-say, just gathering evidence to make the world just that little but safer. Also to advise the Schumachers' if they have the right to sue etc.

I continue to have a very bad feeling about this, it reminds me too much of the Sarah Burke situation in January 2012. Sarah was in a coma for 9 days after a fall in the super-pipe. At first the reports had a positive tone, then changed to the family asking their privacy be respected. On the 9th day it was announced that brain activity had ceased, she was taken off life support and died. It's not that the injuries are similar (they are not) that bothers me, its the silence. :(

I just hope the request for privacy is for a different reason than in Sarah's case.
