He's got the experience. I reckon next year should be better than this year for Button and McLaren seeing as both drivers will have a similar driving style so it should be easier if one driver is struggling. If McLaren produce a good car next year I think it would be a foolish person who'd bet against them being, at the very least, a challenger for both titles.

History tells us that McLaren can be completely discounted from battling for the WDC next season. Reason being, they have a pretty piss poor record in the past THIRTEEN years...and their lead driver for next year has got his bottom whooped in outright pace by the driver who's leaving the team...and only managed to win in 2009 by some freak occurence in the technical area which left him with probably the most dominating car in Formula 1 history. The last time McLaren could 'dominate' a Championship was 1988. Lol.

Now they have lost key figures from the technical side to teams like Redbull, Ferrari, Mercedes and even Williams. They got a reject from Williams to head their 'sporting' division whatever the hell that means, and a lead driver who's a broken record in almost every qualifying session "No Grip no grip no grip". Their brightest part of 2013 is Perez...and he's still not a proven factor. Great speed at times but zero consistency. Still McLarens brightest part of 2013 and probably the most exciting. In terms of titles...one has to be pretty foolish to even consider this team.

Didn't they produce a challenging car this year?

As far as team Button is concerned, I'm going to be keeping an close eye on team Button next year. This year it's pretty much a wash. I don't know if McLaren will take Button to great heights or if Button will take McLaren to great heights, but it will certainly bee interesting to watch and see how this story develops over the next couple of years. Button will at least keep his RED T bar next year, which he would have lost had Lewis signed once again with McLaren.

For those not familiar with the Peter Principle I'm curious if it will be tested in this situation.

are you saying that Button is not competent to lead an F1 team? I am sure he was team leader in BAR/Honda/Brawn and that worked out well for him!

Leading a team and driving fast are at times mutually exclusive. it's actually rare to find a driver that does both. Every once in a while a car is so good that Barichello could have won a WDC driving it. I'm merely asking questions.

Only time will give us the answers.

They produced a car that was certainly the fastest for much of the season but mistakes have happened that have meant that they have not capitalised on this as much and they should. Also, I believe that Ferrari and Red Bull have developed their cars more towards the end of the season.

Then according to your expert opinion, why are they already out of the running for this years' titles even with that advantage? Just curious.

We're obliged to have at least one thread on topic or DD will hit us, and not in a good way.

Get on with your UN thread. We could have two threads on topic then. :whip::hehe:

They'd be leading the WCC if Button had been able to score points for five or six races during the middle of the season when Hamilton was getting podiums, and Button was struggling to get out of Q2. They'd be leading the WCC if they hadn't underfueled a car when one of the drivers got Pole position. They'd be leading the WCC if they'd had more reliable cars.

But next year, everything will be fine and they'll be challenging for both championship. Button will be able to copy Perez' set up when he goes adrift since their styles are so similar. All is right and you may even start cheering for McLaren.

Team Button is now 100 points behind Redbull in the WCC. Hope they stop dreaming about winning it this year and concentrate on getting some grip for next year. :hehe:

Quote of the race must come from Whitmarsh Jenson is a very generous spirit:rofl::rofl::rofl: Martin, Martin! When will you learn.

This gem of a comment came when he was asked if Button would now be leading the team. After some blustering about Jenson's experience and Sergio's inexperience, this is what he came up with.LOL writing already on the wall Sergio!!!

So what he's saying is that Button isn't going to try and dominate the team and he'll not say no to helping Perez. Scandalous!
