They should still change it...its so early in the season and a guarantee of some good points outweighs the risk of a DNF and no penalty IMO.

1 gearbox is supposed to last how many races again? 4? They keep changing this sh*t every year I can't recall now.

Either 4 or 5, can't remember for certain, but I'm pretty sure it's 5

I cant really see why they penalise a driver for this, its the car that has the problem not the driver.

It's just so that teams will actually follow the rule. That 5 place grid penalty could mean losing crucial constructor points for the WCC

It might have been caused by Lewis, didn't he have a big off in one of the first two grand prix weekends practice sessions where he got a bit of air landed hard?

Did anyone see wonky pit box of McLarens?

The havent painted it parrallel to the pit building, but have pulled the rear end out towards the pit lane.

Only issue is, it makes their exit tighter, with a nice bit of rear-slide.

Q. Paddy, a question about Lewis' gearbox. How come it was only discovered yesterday?
PL: Well it's a bit of a disappointment. We were able to notice a problem as a result of analysing some oil samples that showed a problem that's developing in the rear of the gearbox. It could still work but the risk of a failure during the race itself is too great and a much greater penalty from that than would come from a five grid-place penalty. So very disappointing for everyone, particularly Lewis, to start a race weekend in that way on the back foot. But, y'know, we'll do the best with what we have. Try to get pole position so that at worst he'll be in sixth.

I see that, but why not just deduct 5 constructor points then?

Rules are same for everyone.

I know they are, and what I suggested would apply to everyone. Drivers penalised for problems with their driving, constructor penalised for problems with the car.

It's a team sport though, in it together.

I dont see how saying its a team sport affects what i suggested. The driver looses out if he makes the error and the team if the car makes the error. All still in it together.

Like I said how do you know Lewis didn't cause this from an off he had? It's a team sport Lewis can't drive around the track with an Invisible car, nor can the engineers drive their car to its maximum, so they need each other :D
I know it's frustrating I'm pissed too, brings back memories of 05 where Kimi would get a 10 place grid penalty after getting pole nearly every second race. But that's the rules, its to force teams to make parts more reliable and cut costs.

If you just take constructor points away this could be manipulated late in the season where a team only has a shot at the drivers title so changes gearbox, engine etc not caring about the constructor championship to get their driver the WDC.

It is very frustrating. But then lots of the rules are frustrating.
