I loved during the grid walk in Turkey, Brundle got blocked by the dumb German sportscaster. Brundle asked his question first and then the German guy asked his. Seb was giving a goofy little grin looking between them and then asked "should I start in German or English". I laughed my bottom off.

Did anybody see when the drivers were weighting after the race and Vettel turns to Alonso and says " Where did you come from? "

SV has a good sense of humor

With the way things are going for him, how could he not have a good sense of humour, he'd probably cry tears of joy if he was told his cat had died.

Someone said to me the other day that stats only mean so much, theyre right. Until Vettel proves himself in a top car with a top teammate, against another equally paced car with two extra top drivers, i dont and wont believe the hype.

How about this exercise...

Last yr, Mark was in the dominant car. He would have lost the championship.
This yr, Mark is in the same dominant car... he's not winning the championship.

Believing the hype or not, you'd have to say... Vettel is the one doing the domination. Does there need to be any hype about it?

Why can't it be said: right now, he is the most solid driver on the grid?
Is he not?

Or is the problem the old hype? ;) Seems to me, the new hype is out hyping the old hype...

Personally... i dont think too much about the hype, or about how great Vettel is... i dont really care. I think he's doing his job very very well.

Doesnt matter if he's the absolute best, if his teammate is this or that... none of that matters. He doesnt have to prove anything to anyone, let alone the old hypers!! except be the one with the most points at the end of the season. Remember, Vettel's job is not to consolidate the hype... his job is to seal the championship :)

i'm sure there will be a contest. Mclaren and ferrari are both closing in, and it seems the cushion he enjoys will get reduced to the point he will have to be better than just make-no-mistakes to win races. We'll see what happens then...

I think Vettel is dealing with the pressure better this year and there is no doubt that he can drive a car when out front. What makes me wonder about his is the lack of passing. He hasn't had to cut through the field much. Then again, perhaps the Red Bulls are made to run extremely well in clean air..but then go all wacky when the air is dirty from a car in front. There is so much to the aero setup of these cars. They can be set up for good rain performance, but that means they are terrible in the dry. Perhaps the same can be said for clean versus dirty air. I know I've seen video of that flexy front wing doing all kinds of odd things behind traffic....which can't be good if you are trying to overtake. Maybe that is why he does so well out front.....but not so much if trailing.

Whatever...its still been a great year thus far...even with the domination out front.

No doubt he's a really good driver, but I can't think of a race where he drove the wheels off a slower car passing highly rated drivers in better performance cars. Maybe he just hasn't had the opportunity to show that yet?

Most of his wins, that I remember, have been fairly processional out front in a way faster car. Like a lot of Shumi's really.

Monza 08 in a STR was his first win.

First win and to do it so young was really good. But I don't think I'd classify it as an inspiring drive in any way.

If I recall correctly he went out early in qualifying set his time, it then poured down and no-one had a chance of getting close to him. The STR was very fast in a straight line (within 3 or so Klms of the fastest cars there) and with no gimmicks to aid passing in '08 and being at Monza he was pretty much guaranteed no-one could pass him. I do give him a lot of credit for not making any mistakes but, really, no-one was going to pass him at Monza with the straight line speed he had.

I agree in that I'd rate it as one of his best wins, but it's not what you'd call a barn-storming or stand-out drive.

For all the Vettel fans, I do really think he's a very good driver, and it's a little harsh in one sense that I'm saying he hasn't given us a race where he's passing better cars, simply because for nearly all of his wins he's been in the clearly fastest car on track - and that's definitely not his fault :)

I believe you're recalling wrongly. The track was wet throughout qualifying and also the race. Vettel didn't benefit from great timing or some such, he posted the pole lap in equal conditions to everyone. In the race, the track was fully wet and he just rode off into the sunset. It was definitely one of the best drives of his career, and what a result for Toro Rosso.

I don't classify him as an overtaker in the league of Lewis, Alonso, and Kubica but he is solid and incredibly fast. The best asset for Redbull, when they have a car which is class of the field.

Seb is a very good driver in a very good car.I don't think Webber is that great a driver,he only got close last season due to Seb's errors. The one concern i have against the guy is overtaking, which surely with the new wings, kers even my mum could overtake someone :hehe:
Time will tell but for now hes a very good driver ,greatness comes with time, something I have no doubt he will become, but one of the very best ??? it's anyones guess.
For now its a case of enjoying a driver who is on top of his game

Might have to watch Q for that one again. I was pretty sure it really came down after he set his time. It was wet, yes, but it became very wet and raining for the others (after Seb). Will come back if I get to watch it again.

Don't remember him disappearing, and I think Bordais actually had a better time than him. Didn't the Kube have a great race that day :)
