Yeah but they cant make it competitive because it is hard now they have a bad base. That is why they shold have gone back to the 0old car and upgraded madly from there, caus' they are not going anywhere with this car.

Maybe you should give a quick ring to Whitmarsh and share your thoughts....because none of the experts in McLaren seem to have thought of it!!

/sarcasm

Believe it or not, the current McLaren IS quicker compared to last years car....just because last years car looked quick in relation to the competition doesn't mean it will be quick today. Everyone's made 2 second progress, McLaren have made 0.8 seconds progress....in relation to last years car this will be graded as "quick but difficult to drive". Trust me, McLaren are actually semi-intelligent and would have thought of bringing last years' car if it would help them in the long term.

Difference being they understood last years car and its geometry compared to this years thus evolving with the rest of the grid would be much the same. They are using Ferrari as a measuring stick with the suspension. in the long run it will pay off.
Semi intelligence and all...

McLaren appoint Matt Morris as new engineering chief

McLaren have moved to fill the gap left by the loss of former technical director Paddy Lowe to Mercedes.

They have recruited Matt Morris as engineering director and he will join once he has completed his exit from his contract as Sauber chief designer.

Morris moves into the role previously occupied by Tim Goss, who was promoted to Lowe's former role in January.

Lowe has joined Mercedes as executive director (technical) and will become de facto co-team boss with Toto Wolff.

The exact timing of that move within Mercedes has still to be resolved, but the team have made it clear Ross Brawn will stay on as team principal only for the "short or medium term".

They have not defined what that means, but Brawn is not expected to stay in his role beyond this season.

McLaren said Morris would work with Goss "to ensure our engineering standards and technical decision-making capabilities are of the highest quality".

A statement added: "During a period of intense technical challenge within Formula 1, Matt's appointment is the first step in an ongoing programme to strengthen the engineering department as our organisation prepares for the arrival of Honda in 2015."

BBC F1 technical analyst Gary Anderson said: "He's a very solid mechanical design engineer and that's what they think they need. I would be pushing more on the aerodynamic front, the main reason Red Bull rule the show is Adrian Newey's aerodynamics expertise."

The bit I find amusing is the underlined paragraph, McLaren have hardly been showing high quality engineering decisions in the past six months!

Translated from corporate speak to common language: Goss made a booboo with this car so we're bringing someone to help make the big decisions for him.

So McLaren are raiding staff from teams that are clearly improving, Sam Michael from Williams and now Sauber are place to get guys who are making a real difference. Hmmn, its back to the finances

this could be the the final answer to McLaren now and in the recent past when their strength in depth meant they did not need to go outside to bolster their ranks. So its hard to keep saying 'Paddys loss means nothing, look when Newey left etc'

if it looks like a midfield team, acts like a midfield team, has drivers who have spent the majority of their careers in midfield, replaces engineers not from Lotus but from Sauber............

They have new livery on the side pods. That's obviously what they meant by new parts unfortunately.

if that was the case they would have stuck the decals on upside down by mistake

Well one thing they, or at least Jenson has got right - Lewis' pace will shock you

Just a shame they didnt work that out last year and tried harder to keep him
