The team also said that they knew Lewis would pass Glock and win the championship. I didn't believe that, either...

Passing Timo Glock is not the most difficult thing in the world... especially when the fool doesn't go in for WET TIRES IN THE RAIN!!!! But all that's in the past...

From a Tifosi point of view, I think Hamilton looks just fine sitting in that gravel every day.... New season, new excitement!

As far as I'm concerned, Glock made the right call. Aside from that final lap, he was miles faster than Hamilton and in with a shot of taking some big points. Had the lap finished one minute earlier, Hamilton would not have won the world championship and Glock's strategy would have paid off.

Well, admittedly I was betting on McLaren having a headstart this year, but they're looking off the ball.

According to James Allen who attended the Barcelona the last few days, Kovy was getting on the throttle much latter than any other drivers out of the last corner. So what McLaren are struggling with is a lack of grip out of the slower corners. Which is kinda a big problem.

But it really seems as though Toyota, BMW, and Ferrari are the top teams. Brawn GP might be in the mix, but of course it's too early to be guessing anything.

Can we start a McLaren poll? Are they sandbaging or are they F'd?

I've been thinking about this all day.... they're sandbagging. I think they're doing it so blatantly that it seems like they're not doing it, kind of a double bluff.

If they do they're going to be mighty... its so conflicting. Hard to tell...

In a way i hope they have messed up so that teams other than the usual suspects (ie Brawn GP :D ) get chances to win on merit, so maybe i'm just subconsciously setting myself up to lessen the disappointment. :P

I think if Mclaren are really off the pace, it will simply be a lull. With the testing ban they could possibly make up the much needed ground. I'd be more than happy to see a season which isn't dominated by a Mclaren V Ferrari war. However they could easily turn up at Melbourne and be miles ahead... I do hope that they over come any of their gremlins though, because Hamilton doesn't deserve to defend his title in a poor car.

The testing ban usually DOESN'T help development...

In most cases it doesn't. But Mclaren have a superior simulator among a host of other resources in comparison with the majority of teams. With no track testing allowed, bar the free practices on Friday, Mclaren are best placed to make gains.

Whether they do or not is another story.

Well, if their simulator was so superior as you claim, it didn't do them any good for the start of the season :P Who's to say that will change during the season? And developing and simulating in a test-free vacuum only goes that far - you still need to road test components to see whether they work better together than the current solution...

I suppose they'll just have to use the Friday's.
I think Mclaren have ballsed up - so to say - and I do agree with what you are saying. My point is that if there are any team in a position to make any sort of gain during the season then surely it is Mclaren?

I doubt LH is consistently breaking down or sliding into the gravel on purpose. Not even McLaren are that twisted.

With the kind of money Toyota has, they may be able to make some big moves during the season if the other guys are hampered by not being allowed to test.

I think Ferrari can do that too. Just think of secret test sessions on their own track between 2 and 5am :P

I have to agree with EwmanM. Even if you don't take McLarens "superior" simulators into account it shouldn't be to difficult to catch up. The other teams won't improve as fast as normal and McLaren will know what their problems so can aim at fixing them.

If they are utterly awfull they could use the entire race weekend as testing
