On the racism row - those British who have sat and criticised Spain really need to look at their own country.
A country still rife with Sectarian Violence,

Erm, I've lived in England for 26 years and I've never experienced any sectarian violence. Hardly "rife" then, is it?

Look to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

I'm looking at Scotland, as I've lived here for the last 30 years, and you're still full of sh!te. Sectarian violence????? Clutching at straws, just give it a rest.

catholic protestant bickering is still rather rife is it not?

Rife? Certainly not. There may be an occasional scuffle in Glasgow, but that's as much to do with Celtic/Rangers as much as anything else. It's not something I've ever witnessed over here.

Ok, so Im spanish and first of all I totally condem what has hapenned with that website. Secondly, congratulations to Lewis Hamilton, the best driver this year won the championship. What I do not agree with is the way the brittish press has handled this whole thing. Now we have people in this forum saying that RACISM IS PART OF THE SPANISH CULTURE. Am I a racist coz I dislike Hamilton? Dont think so, and even more if you consider the fact that my husband is Indian. THERE IS RACISM EVERYWHERE and Britain is not better than Spain in that aspect. Nobody has called my husband a "f***ing PAKI" in spain and I still remember the day that Mr Jeremy Clarkson called Rafael Nadal an "APE" in national television. Now, do I think that all british people are racist? NO. THERE IS GOOD AND BAD PEOPLE IN EVERY COUNTRY INCLUDING BRITAIN, DONT FORGET THAT.

I'm glad you've brought up Glasgow, Scotland's most populus city and the rivalry between Scotland's two biggest football clubs, a sport engrained on the Country's culture.
In Glasgow and Greater Glasgow (which takes up roughly a third of the total Scottish population) Crime has been known to rise by as much as 300% on the day of an old firm match. Which is a rivalry steeped sectarian tendancies.

You only need to look to the news this week in Scotland to see that Sectarian Violence is still top of the agenda in some parts of Scotland - The announcement by the police that they would arrest any Rangers fan singing the famine song - not that I take part in that.

Look to the last old firm game. Former Celtic Caprain and now team coach - Neil Lennon, was brutally attacked in an affluent area of Glasgow - point out that the violence shown is not contained to Govan or Parkhead.

I live close to 100 miles away from Glasgow, but we get the Rangers and Celtic Fans from Ireland because we are the closest Ferry route. Now many a time I have been on the streets and seen alot of things been said between each set of fans from Northern Ireland AND even fans of the clubs from where I live. So, again it is hardly encompassed to one region of the country.

As for the Orangemarches - they still take place in certain regions of Scotland - which I find crazy because there is no real need for them.

Football is football tho, there's been loads of films about football violence and most of them are all related to club hatred i.e Man Utd - Liverpool

Its the same with Celtic and Rangers it just to club hatred which spills out in sectarian hatred.

Anyone else think this thread has just gone mind-bendingly stupid? I would have thought they'd have the sense to lock it already...

Give it a rest. You've generalised about the whole of Scotland based on the supporters of two football clubs in one city. Get out a bit more and you'll see that Scotland isn't like that.

Oh no Scotland isn't riddled with these problems. But they very much do exist and it isn't just in Glasgow - look around the country.
Scotland is a great wee country but there is problems like there is anywhere. The point I was making is that Spain shouldn't be singled out when there are problems in places closer than you think.

I have looked around the country, and you're still speaking sh!te. I've been here over 30 years and I'm yet to see one purely sectarian incedent. Maybe in parts of Glasgow when the football is on (and even then, that's mostly hyped by the media), but not Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, etc, etc. It isn't 'rife' up here like you were claiming a few posts ago.

:banghead: - The point I may it that is still exists.

It is still rife in areas of Scotland - Glasgow being the most notable but I have seen trouble in other areas of Scotland. Maybe you have been ignorant to this. I have not sadly it can be in your face. Why would the Scottish Executive make countless attempts to try to curb it? Why is it still in the news?

The problem with sectarianism in Scotland is that it has generally been sweeped under the rug. Search google and it comes up alot as "Scotland's secret shame". I guess people just ignore the reality.

I believe it is possible that you have maybe not experienced any in your time in Scotland - but it is the same anywhere in the world. Surely there were parts of other countries such as Spain who aren't faced with racist or bigotted problems. Yes this is true - but that doesn't mean it doesn't STILL exist.

There's no point to any of this, you'll back track until you're convinced you're right.

It does exist though. So what is there to argue about?

Well...allow me:

Hamilton is still a f'ing looser to me  ...go crash in a pit lane Lewis!... 08 Champion? what a joke

Could not have said it better myself
If they would deduct the points that a driver has caused other drivers to lose with unfair driving then Hamilton would currently be at about -147 :D:D

Don't worry. The last laugh belongs to Hamilton and McLaren.
