I liked how it was before with numbers 1 to 23 done by WCC order. i guess i'm just a traditionalist with these things.

I am in agreement with this.

Coming back from a commercial break you see.... Car number 8 and car number 17 are being investigated by the stewards. That's why the permanent numbers associated with a driver thing is a good idea.

Here's the other; There isn't a red blooded 'merican that wouldn't be able to tell you who drove car number 3. it's damned good for marketing.

It wasn't always this way. Ferrari used 27 and 28 for many seasons as chosen numbers.

I like them having their own number, it becomes part of them, like. Rossi with his 46.. Maybe now the numbers will become a bit more prominent on the cars.

Or, put another way, there isnt a red necked nascar supporter who would be able to work out where Dale finished the season before without fixed numbers :hehe:

I liked the old format simply because it kinda gave a ranking from where the drivers were in the previous season and what they can do this season to make it a smaller number. Almost like a progression chart for all drivers. (except when teams get DSQ of course)

However, what I do like about this adaptation is knowing exactly which drivers are under investigation, etc as soon as you see it during races. Sometimes even the commentators get it mixed up.

Are the numbers going to be displayed any different though? Because if they aren't- Ive no idea what giving them permanent numbers will achieve - if you cant read them on the car.

It would be cool if they are of different patters, like say matching the drivers' helmets and the design can be changed according to the drivers' wish?

If it's the same mundane hard-to-see black colours like before at every GP I see no real point in having 'personalized' numbers.

I think the numbers are so small to maximise sponsorship space. However if the number becomes part of the sponsorship they will become more obvious
