Can't see Sauber getting up to much here, sadly. Unless they pull a strategy ace via one stopping or something. Their car seems more suited to quicker circuits.

My eyes are on Mercedes. Tested a LOT of upgrades at Magny Cours and look set to run them here, plus they were quick at Monaco.

McLaren to focus a bit more on Qualifying
ESPNF1;"We can influence the difference between race and qualifying pace in a few areas," Lowe said. "In most areas we can't, in the few areas we can we tend to make calculations about how we weight that in priority between the two. I have to say I agree that the recent statistics kind of show that weighting has kind of been stronger than most people appreciated. It does seem that there is a trend about being able to control the car and the use of the tyres if you're leading from the front than if you aren't. So we've certainly noticed it and it may cause us to do some things differently."

Bloody hell, this thread exploded today. That was like reading a novel. Fanboys edition. :P:P:whip::whip::wink:

You don't have to read it to come to a conclusion, it's okay to just assume what it says, ask f1ea.

I'm informed Luca Badoer almost scored points in a Minardi, it was such a big achievement that when the car broke down he was crying. Although some will argue that proves the Minardi was insanely quick if Badoer got to a point scoring position in it. :hehe:

Hardyharhar....so how many cars actually finished this race again? You're putting words into my mouth now, it all depends on the situation and as we can clearly see since Barcelona, the Ferrari IS capable of podiums and 1 driver is doing what he's paid to do - get the most out of the machinery. Fullstop.

What words did I put into your mouth? I just just empathising the Minardi's were serious backmarkers. I was really responding to the implication by whatsburning that it's as fair to say Lewis might have won races if he started off in Minardi as it is to suggest Alonso would have won a WDC if he started off in a Mclaren.

It's all in the past, but once again I'd say as F1 is a team sport part of driver ability is team selection and working with their team, obviously luck plays a part too.

Oh I see, you thought I was arguing a Badoer out performed his machinery, I think such a definition is unhelpful anyway, how fast a driver goes in a car depends on too many factors. I don't think any driver completely maximises the machinery, ever, it's inconceivable, but some get closer to it than others. But you can't just interchange drivers to say one would do better than another, it depends on driving style in relation to the car's behaviour, psychological factors and probably others.

Alonso's situation with Ferrari is a very good one, so his driving is reflecting that. But there have probably been times when other drivers have had cars reasonably capable of a podium, but they finished behind Alonso, due to a series of very small mistakes that added up.

Right. But what I'm getting at is that Alonso talks as if his car is still a dog and has no business being on podiums. His level of english is quite good so I can't give him the benefit of the doubt in terms of bad communication/misquotations.

I think he's just a perfectionist who is encouraging the team to try and get into a dominant position. The Ferrari is still at risk of having their lead quickly eaten up by a faster Mclaren.

Might help if you posted specifics though.

So to the topic of the Singapore GP, it looks like it could be a wet one. The glare off a wet track could make things interesting. I'd actually quite like to see how they'd cope with a wet race here - Wet Weekend Predicted

Caterham have a new front wing - Caterham to race new front wing in Singapore

And there is to be a tribute to Prof. Sid Watkins - FIA to pay tribute to Professor Sid Watkins on Singapore Grand Prix grid

That is all.
