Now the other side of the garage at McLaren knows what it's like to be under the scrutiny of the media and the drama it introduces. It was a bit lop sided before. :hehe:

HUH? Jenson is practically LET FREE By the media... no one is daring to take shots at him like the did Hamilton last year.

Jackie Stewart?

Damon Hill?

I don't think even the most ardent of Jenson fans here has ever claimed that he was faster than Lewis or Vettel or Alonso, simply that he has a unique skill set that's allowed him a long F1 carreer while not being the "fastest" driver.

Exactly. The reason why I became a fan of Jenson is because of his ability to make good tactical decisions. I made a lot of posts already that each driver has his own strengths and weaknesses. I even specified the strengths and weaknesses of each driver in an old thread.

I'm a fan of drivers who don't take a lot of risky moves and I also prefer consistency and patience over speed. That's why I chose to support jenson over lewis.

Having said that, I consider myself a team fan so I wouldn't have a problem switching my support to any driver as long as he's driving for mclaren.

Lewis has improved a lot as far as consistency and patience goes this season and I'm happy to see him on top of the championship standings but for now I'll still support Jenson until he's mathematically out of the championship(the beauty of being a team fan)...

Jenson has nothing to prove. He already proved that he's a good driver by winning a championship. He was a contender in 2010 and he was the best of the rest last year. He already showed that he can win after being sent to the back of he field(canada 2011) and he has shown that he's very good in making tactical decisions. He's not the fastest driver in the field but he isn't by no means an average driver...

I'm new here and a fan of Mclaren and Lewis, If we back in time when Lewis become F1 champion, at that time with a Lewis champions car he was flying alone in the all over the season and Kovolinen was not even close to him just in one time when he won in Hungary as i remember, But now with Jenson and Lewis they have a great chance of winning both driver and team champions for this year.

Jenson performance could happen to any driver with a new upgrades but as a Mclaren fan I said I will keep support him in order to make him back to form and get through this period and help the team to get more points and I think its the time to take the Team champion.

This only my opinion.

And a very fine opinion it is too! Like yourself and oaba, I'm a team fan, and am backing Jenson to regain his form before long. It's all about the WCC!:drink:

Jenson's latest line to the press is “It’s not moaning,” Button is quoted by the Mirror. “People say ‘He always whinges’. You are not whinging.

I don't to Gloat any more about Jenson predicament but then I remember how he was basking in Lewis troubles last year, his swagger and extralong grin betrayed the joy he got from Lewis trouble. What goes around comes around,Lewis has gotten into his head but the funny thing is,Lewis has not tried or wanted to get in Button head,Button did it all himself. The pressure of expectation has overwhelmed him and the need to create talking points for Culthard and Brundle,Buttons over media awareness is what killing him.Button is the only driver that is constantly playing the media from the staged calls between him and his engineer pretending that he is planing strategy,to planting stories in the press about Ferrari wanted him or fake storiies of his site hacked.

There is no real cure for Buttons problem,Lewis has upped his game and in an attempt to match Lewis,Button is over driving and chewing his tires, before Button understood and accepted that Lewis is quicker so he drove within himself and let the race come to him.NOW he has believed the hype that he is an F1 top DOG so seeing Lewis infront of him throws him into a panic where he overdrives and kill his tires, all THE WHILE thinking WHAT Im I gonna say now To THE media,Lewis has Beaten me again.

Same o'l excuses: "no grip,no balance, don't know, wasn't me,its not me,no pace, don't know where the speed suddenly went,it's disappear, someone must have nicked it.It was the car's fault, maybe it was the wind's fault,it wasnt me,it never is,it's not that Im not an adaptable driver, blah blah blah.We hear the same thing at every GP mostly at around at the post quali interviews: "Erm...cant believe it,the car was fantastic before but as soon as quali came something happened and all the grip and pace dissapeared into thin air just like it always does at this time at every GP,it's got to be the phanton of the paddocks" know who's fault it really is,it's McLaren, check the nut behind the wheel!

I don't know what i'm looking forward to must this weekend in Valencia,Lewis going for the win or Jenson f***ing up lmfao.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

May I offer an alternative viewpoint?

It's not related to the bad season Lewis had last year.

Jenson started off this season well too, he is now struggling.

His career has shown he isn't a poor driver, yet his recent results suggest this.

Vettel started of this year struggling and being outperformed by Webber, yet Redbull made changes to the car and now he's faster again. My point is that driver performance in f1 is highly dependable on car characteristics, Button is reputed to be a driver who is particularly dependent.

Possibly McLaren have made changes to their car which hasn't suited him, so for the moment he is struggling.

Chances are they'll get on top of it soon (Button and McLaren).

I'll also suggest some on here view Button as a rival/competitor to Lewis but have thrown a lot of attachment behind supporting Lewis, therefore to defend that, Button is bashed and belittled at every chance.

And yet a third viewpoint? I dont like to bash jenson, and I hope I havent, because my driver was in a bad place last year and I didnt like it when he got bashed. However I do hold my hands up to a little feeling of glee when Jenson doesn't do well. And its because of things already mentioned, the poor treatment of Lewis by previous drivers, press, team principal and to a certain extent a little gloating from Jenson himself. This incensed me, and probably other Lewis fans as well so seeing what goes around coming around is a little sweet.
Jenson drove the best Ive ever seen him drive last year, taking advantage of all oppotunities available , and credit to him for that; but it should be remembered that he was being compared to Lewis who was having his worst season ever for which all and sundary delighted in taking pots at him .And even then they won the same amount of races; jenson was ahead of Lewis in exactly the same amount of races as lewis was ahead of Jenson. Lewis practically always (always?) outqualified Jenson unless he'd had a problem(no fuel in car, not out in time to cross the line, starts to rain etc).
This I think is why Jenson is now given a hard time by some Lewis fans, not just because of his dip in form, that could happen to anyone.

Amen, sister!

I'm no Button hater but I like the feeling of karma playing a role in the McLaren partnership this year. Just for last year and the way Button was hyped up due to his total points standings, I'm hoping for a major whipping this year from Lewis to put him back where he belongs.

I don't mind Jenson doing well and I think I'm one of the Lewis fans that hasn't bashed him. As a McLaren fan, I feel he has to do well for the team to succeed! I just like it when Lewis does better, that's all. Last year was double difficult for that reason, as a McLaren fan the team being soundly trounced by Red Bull, and as a Lewis fan, him being beaten fair and square by Jenson, the first and only person that can make that claim. Little to cheer about for us.

I think popular opinion has been proven very wrong given the Jenson/Lewis poll we've got going on, how much expectation there was by folks for things at McLaren to remain the same. Well they didn't. The pendulum has swung the other way this year, and instead of playing into his strengths, they're at the point of magnifying Jenson's weaknesses. I don't think the current situation is completely reflective of his talent so the truth is probably somewhere in the middle... I hope so, for the sake of the team once again winning a WCC in the future.

It was after the wall incident that lewis' results went from bad to worse. I wonder what would have been the outcome of the year had it been jenson that went in the wall instead of Lewis?...just a thought, Im not excusing lewis' decline into self destruct, just pondering.

I dont even think he had a "decline into self destruct", he made a couple of mistakes (optimistic passes on an angry brazilian) over about 8 races, (admitadly the worst period of his career :D) but yeh ive wonderd a lot what would be different had wallgate not happend, certainly think lewis would have won the race, and probably would have gone one to beat jens and got 2nd in the WDC, and maybe the bbcs love affair with JB wouldnt of been so intense, but oh well i think the "bad period" has made Lewis an even stronger driver if we can judge from the start of this year :) think it would be a brilliant year to win it, im gonna be so nervous for the rest of the year, canada was bad enough i was so tense, if we have a really close vet/ham/alo fight for the title, and its the difference of them being a 3 times champion and him still only 1, and him being up there with them on 2, its such a big difference, im gonna be in pieces for the rest of the year lol, oh well thats why we love F1 :)

Now that the grid is closer Button is finding his place which is about 3 rows behind Lewis, he must accept that the other drivers are faster and deal with starting tenth from now
What he is doing is slash and burn tactics, do so badly that everyone thinks there is something up, instead of him just been a slower driver than 10 others

Can't keep it up much longer Jenson
