And he is a liar. He thinks he is faster than Hamilton Rosberg Fernando and Massa!

And the 2009 champion is convinced McLaren have finally unlocked their car’s potential to stop it becoming the first season in 33 years that they have failed to make the podium.“I just need to stop being quick in the three practice sessions and put that into qualifying.

The pace is there and we’ve just got to extract it. There’s a good possibility of our best result of the year by reaching the podium.”

Lets see what he says on the weekend

I look forward to Peerless :duckie: outqualifying his teammate and lining up in the Top 8 (at least) on the grid and getting McLaren their long awaited podium like the big hero he believes he is. Let's see some :duckie: skillzzzz Jens!!!

Anyway, if it rains in Brazil which it most likely will.....it should be his best chance, ripping the opposition apart like a :duckie: to water.

What's with him. He's been saying this all season. But there is rain on the agenda this weekend. Maybe it is what they are looking for.

I think we probably do, because he went out of his way to put himself on a pedestal, and didn't care who he trod on to get there.

And he is a liar. He thinks he is faster than Hamilton Rosberg Fernando and Massa!

And how exactly did you arrive at these conclusions?

I think it's time to read through the Jenson support thread and realize that every detrimental thing that was going to be said has been said. It's just more of repeating things now.

This is a case of given enough rope, and it's manifested itself the way most knew it would. Now let's start becoming more optimistic about the sport for 2014, please.

Jenson said he is slower than the red bull and probably the lotus. Means he thinks that he is in the third fastest car on the grid.

As has already been pointed out more than once, no, he didn't.

Jenson has said that he considers only the Red Bulls and RoGros Lotus as out of reach. And implies that all the others are in reach and are beatable to the podium.

So he either believes his car is now faster than those others (it has been pointed out that he didnt say his car was not slower) or he believes he is a better driver than those other drivers to be able to overcome any car difference left and beat them to the podium

mr cheese is correct in his assumption as Button does not mention luck or rain, just says he is capable of beating the others to the podium

Since when does, "we should still hope for a podium" mean "I'm better than everyone except red bull and grosjean"?

Surely you see the difference. Come on.

I like Jenson. He's not my favorite driver by a wide margin, so I've never bothered saying anything on this subject until now, but I think the way three or four people repeatedly spat nonsense and homophobic quips about him and whitmarsh all over this forum is awfully tiresome. We get it. You don't like him and you think everything bad that ever happened to Lewis is because Jenson and whitmarsh are gay for each other. Can we move on?

To be fair, its not like some are going on about things that happened in the past.

Its the current things that people criticize. The ongoing fake media talk, Whitmarshs recent claim that Button is a PEERLESS feedback and car development driver. The continual destruction of McLaren and lack of culpability assigned to Button. The manlove keeps getting brought up because the weight of evidence builds up and there is no rational explanation. The same is said on every other forum by the way

So you like Button, do you agree that he is a PEERLESS at feedback and indispensable to McLaren going into 2014? Do you think compared to Sergio he has been value for his 15 mill wage (Sergios is less than 1 mill)?

I have no idea what kind of development driver Jenson is. Of course in response to that you are going to say, "if he's so great, why are McLaren doing so badly this season?" Well, there are many more factors involved in developing a car than just the driver. As you know, mclarens technical staff has been leaving the team, and they took a radical departure from their competitive 2012 car. Maybe Jenson had some input in that decision, maybe not. So without any knowledge of how development has been done at McLaren the last few years, I'd defer to someone with first-hand knowledge. Could whitmarsh be biased? Or just parroting the party line? Of course. Do I think someone under that much scrutiny could continually cover for a driver who isn't worth the salary? No.

Yes, Perez has been doing better than Jenson lately, and if broken down to a simple points per salary calculation, Perez would have a much higher bang for the buck. I'll even go as far as to say that it does seem a little weird, but I'm not going to presume to know more about the value of drivers than the team principal or the investors he has to answer to.

Put this way, at the last race Sergio qualified the car in the top 10 and Button couldnt. If Sergio had gone out in q1 because of a bad timing decision or traffic leaving Button as the only McLaren driver in q2 do you think Button would have a) said that the car was good enough for q3 and he just wasnt fast enough or b) the car was at fault and wasnt fast enough to make q3

If you really think it would be option a, then fair enough, for you Button is ok. However I am willing to bet everything that b would be the case. This is borne out by a ton of evidence. And if I am correct then Buttons dishonesty and selfishness is a a big part of Mclaren heading for their worst year results wise since Bruce first started the team. (They need a 4th place to avoid this statistic)
And in that case Button deserves the criticism when he is insincere to the press and Whitmarshs past quotes and behaviour needs to be examined to see why Button is still allowed to get away with this

I'm not going to speculate on hypotheticals. All I see is you (and a few other people) putting the most negative spin possible on everything Jenson says and does. Sometimes you may actually have a fair point, but others you're just blatantly wrong (like the podium comment discussed earlier).

Do you think Button has a chance of the podium without bad luck from Mercedes, Ferrari and Lotus?

because thats what Button says,

Fifth is the highest position either Button or team-mate Sergio Perez has achieved so far this season, yet the 33 year-old Briton still has belief a top-three finish is possible in Brazil on Sunday.
"If everything goes to plan we can get a very good result, and we should still hope for a podium," Button said.
"I don't think we're far off the pace of any car apart from Red Bull, and maybe the Lotus of (Romain) Grosjean is a bit too far ahead.

"But with everyone else, if you have a good weekend then you can challenge, so we'll see.

If he has a good weekend he is capable of beating Lewis, Nico, Alonso and Massa in his Mclaren.

Anyway lets wait to see how it pans out on the weekend, and more importantly what is said by Button at various stages
