No they're not miracle workers but they have an important role. Smedley is legend. Id love him to engineer Lewis. At the moment Massa is off the boil and like you say, the engineer is not a miracle worker. I dont think Lewis needs a miracle worker, just a solid confident engineer/strategist.

Rob Smedley is indeed a terrific man. 8-)

Im not absolutely clear who went where. I thought Lewis' went to Jenson. But Lewis and his engineer were definately split up so as not to give him an advantage over Jenson.

I knew the precise answer to that, wonder of wonders, being an A-meri-can (meaning I might not know a whole lot about anything :D ), but I don't recall the names and exact titles/positions as it was explained to me, at the moment.

Suffice it to say though, yep RC, you are right. The idea was to give Jenson "equality" within the team, but I think it really only served to disadvantage Lewis unnecessarily. But them's, as they say, are the breaks.

I would also like to see a 1-2 here. May the best McLaren man win.:beer:

Didn't Lewis's engineer get promoted to make room for the one he has now

Didn't Lewis's engineer get promoted to make room for the one he has now

Yeah, as I recall, but in an unusually complicated way. The simplest way would have seemed to me to be, just promote the best available guy, to take charge of Jenson's situation, and leave Lewis' team in place. I'm sure there were a lot of talented candidates.

But that's water under the bridge. We'll see tonight how well they have it sorted.

. . . .

Watching a pretty good Corvette, BMW, Ferrari battle (although Ferrari seem to have fallen off a bit), at Long Beach. Not a huge fan of GT racing these days -- since they went "small" on the power -- but it's a good time-filler leading up to the GP. :hehe:

Ive looked it up. Both race engineers got promoted but part of the reasoning was so that Lewis didnt have the advantage of consistency over Jenson. Lewis had been with that engineer since the start of his F1carreer. It was also the time when they decided to share all settings and data and centralise how they did set-ups and things. Maybe its time to reevaluate that approach and let each team decide whats best for its driver. Perhaps that was discussed when they talked about Lewis' bad pitstop strategies...But maybe not.

Well the little tax dodger is leading the title race ,as are McLaren  He seems to be in a lot better place this season, seems a lot happier with 3rd places than he did wins at the end of last season.Pretty much what his dad said after the race aswell.
Surely he has to win a race soon this season.hopefully it will be in a weeks time.

I think he's due for a win already...if he had rightly started 2nd in China, Merc won't have as much to celebrate today.

Hope for a no problems weekend at Bahrain for Lewis.

It's nice to see Lewis enjoying the consistency which he so badly lacked last season. Leading the WDC, good on him.

Hopefully, it won't be long until that first win.

So you don't like the team treating them equally?

I would like the team to treat them equally absolutely. But the bending over backwards is having the opposite affect. By trying too hard to prove equality they're screwing up their pitstops, usually lewis' but sometimes Jenson's as well. This lovey dovey stuff is all very well but its a racing team and the driver should know he has the complete support of his side of the garage. Making decisions by consensus is inefficient and likely to disadvantage one of the drivers.
