^ Don't they call that stuff a strawman argument.

Anyway, wtf was Alonso supposed to do? Kubica broke down.

he should have given the place back straight away and nothing would have happened. He and the team should have known they would get penalised as he cut a corner and gained a place.

Ah. Luca just explained, as Kubica broke down they were discussing it with race control.

Or rather, just as he was told he'd have to let him back past. Unlucky with the timing of it really.

As for whether he should have let him back past IMMEDIATELY, yeah, in hindsight he should have but no driver would have automatically done it without being told to first. Hence the situation arose with Kubica's retirement etc.

its common knowledge in all race series if you pass someone while cutting a corner you'll get in trouble, i said to my mate who is a Ferrari fan :whip: he will give the place back, when he didnt we both were saying he will get penalised.

Obviously, but Kubica retired right after Alonso got the message you see.

he should have slowed down and let back through straight away. I agree its unfortunate that Kubica retired but hey Alonso and Ferrari gambled by not giving the place back straight away. Their own fault.

Yup. It's a pretty damn rare situation so was definitely worth the 'gamble' though! Hindsight is always 20/20 eh?

Alonso accepted the penalty anyway, surpisingly relaxed about the race by his standards:

"I accept everything they do. They are the judges," Alonso told Spanish television after the race.

"You can just say one thing: if a penalty must be punishing it must be always like this," said the Italian team.

"This is just the halfway point of the season, so all the points that we have lost in this first half is because we haven't done things as well as the others," he said.

"So in the second half of the championship we are going to try to do better than the others and recover one point more than what they have now.

"The season is very long and we are not going to give up."

Still, the s*** luck was there. If kubica diddn't break down they would've just swapped over. But no, Alonso had to get a damn penalty just after a safety car.

Sorry, that doesn't hold water. You're supposed to give the place back 2-3 corners after the unfair advantage. The penalty would still be applied.

Seems to me that if you take Kubica out of the equation his only offence was cutting the corner, and i thought you are allowed 3 cuts before a penalty is given.

Ah but he did gain a place through the cut.

I think thats cutting a corner in general, its different if you take a position.

That doesn't make sense. It counts when the offense was made. What if I robbed a bank, and next day the bank burned down with all the money. Am I innocent? :banghead:

His attitude sucks, he refused to be interviewed after the race, sums him all up, where-as take Felipe, he had a bloody awful race yet he put himself up in front of Lee for the post race chat. I have huge respect for Massa, I have none for F.A
