Lotus don't have powering steering for today.

Any particular reason for that? Has it failed or something?

Ah right, I see. Hopefully when they get that fitted we should see some faster times.

Also, does anyone else really like the Lotus race overalls?

How about that Lotus performance huh? Virgin eat your heart out. Looks like their all-CFD car wasn't all it's cracked up to be.

Virgin have done 4 laps though. I think they must have done 2 or 3 wet laps this morning, and then did 1 or 2 installation laps today. Seriously, Virgin aren't doing anything but just sitting there today. Wonder what the problem is.

Today the conditions have been so variable the times are worthless. It was dry for a while, and only a couple of teams got any dry running. So all the times seem based on what the conditions were like at the time.

That's sort of the point though. Lotus have gone straight out onto reliable running clocking in decent amounts of laps. Virgin have had a test already and they're still not doing much of anything.

 They're awesome

In a weird way, yes.

Wait, so Lotus are 6 tenths faster than Virgin - without power-steering? Nice.

Really loving the Lotus atm. Lets hope it can get into the points this year.

Pecking order people?

IMO, 1 - Red Bull & McLaren
2. Ferrari (by the slightest of times)
3. Sauber
4. STR/Williams
5. Force India/Williams (Tight midfield battle)
6. Renault
7. Lotus (Car looks a lot more developed than the Virgin)
8. Virgin

This is totally based on testing so far, fickle it has been in the past. Though I'm not sure where to place Mercedes. By the looks of it, they are faster than the Renault but slower than the Ferrari. But not to sure as to whether they are the "best of the rest" or in a midfield battle. Hope for Schumi's sake Mercedes are sandbagging.

I'm just waiting for Stefan GP to somehow sneak their car into qualifying when no body is looking.

Funniest thing I've read here in a while. :D

I'm finding it very hard to analyse the data from testing this year due to the huge fuel load variance, but my thoughts are so far that I think McLaren may and I mean may because I can't prove it have a slight ultimate pace advantage over Ferrari and Mercedes. Ferrari seem to have better consistency over the longs runs Red Bull are well in the mix as well but not sure where. Sauber and STR are posting fast times these could be genuine but I believe that they are running lower fuel levels than some other teams.

According to some sources, the Ferrari has very good tyre management over long runs. James Allen says there's a drop-off period after the first few laps but after this the lap times are super-consistent.

Good debut for Lotus today, I think Branson will be kicking himself a bit.

Bad luck for Williams despite heaps of laps today, Barrichello was picking up the pace when he got bogged down by reliability again and then it poured down when he came back out. I think the team need to put some new bits in for tomorrow as most of the reliability problems have been from hydraulics and gearbox components that haven't been changed since the car left the factory.

I'd agree with that but the rainy conditons today made it hard to judge

I am very impressed with Lotus. Virgins first test was like... 6 laps... They managed a full 76 without a mechanical fault. WITHOUT power steering too. Good effort! And they are faster than Virgin hehehe.

I agree, Lotus should be pretty happy with today's performance,i have chosen them as my second team. I really want them to do well this season,at least be the best of the new teams.
