Why would Alonso be banned? It's not as if he was involved in what happened. Sure it gave him the win, but it was his team's decision.

how do you know? exactly, you don't.

he's lied anyway if it was true so he should get punished

Yep. If its true he should be punished. Whats good for the goose and all that. Ah but this is F1.

Well, it's not as simple as that. The FIA have got themselves into a pickle here. Let's assume Renault are found guilty, but that Alonso was not aware of the team's scurrilous act. If you think back to the spy scandal of 2007, both McLaren drivers were allowed to retain their points and fight for the drivers' title as they adjudged not to have been involved in the spying (well, Alonso was, but he was let off by what was effectively a plea bargain, but this is beside the point). A possible way round this, I suppose, would be for the FIA to claim the spying did not affect the pace of both Alonso and Hamilton's cars, whereas the whole safety car situation in Singapore directly allowed Alonso to take victory.

I might have missed something, but why the hell has all this only come into light now? It's been nearly a year since the race FFS! :banghead:

does anyone else think that renault could withdraw from the sport if they are found guilty? and if they are what do you all think the punishment will be? huge fine, ban from a number of races, both? i think it could be pretty difficult to prove mind.

Their is cheating and their is damn right dangerous stupidity in my book.If these allegations are true, god help Renault because this goes beyond anything i have ever witness in F1.

What about safety for other drivers or safety for their own driver, freak accidents do happen you know. :banghead: Then we have the 2008 championship that was won and lost over a single point? WTF does this mean for Lewis and Felipe if these allegations are true. It's going to go two ways ,either it gets blow under the carpet and blamed on some disgruntled ex Renault driver or the brown stuff is about to hit the fan and probably break it.

Are you serious? You never saw Schumi crashing or trying to crash on purpose causing danger to other drivers?

At least little Piquet chose the slowest and safest straight on the whole race course to loose control.

Of course it is wrong to crash on purpose, but come on is there someone out here who really thinks that the teams wouldn't be ready to cheat in all possible way, if they think they won't be caught. Maybe not all drivers, but teams for sure, or someone in each team.

So it really doesn't mean that much, and in the end nobody cares for too long, as an evidence of that schumi's old sins are all forgotten and he is remembered as an all time champion.

intresting article by autosport here

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78446

it says it has sources that say during a pre-race meeting deliberately causing a safty car was brought up.

But it seams Nelson is saying he was presured into it by Symonds and Flav but Symonds and Flav say it was nelson who suggested it.

They seam to have got a choice quote from Pat Symonds tho

Symonds is also reported as saying: "It's true, during the Sunday meeting with Piquet the issue of deliberately causing a SC deployment came up, but it was proposed by Piquet himself. It was just a conversation."

The plot thinkens! but this really is bad for the sport.

Both the Piquets are manipulative, arrogant pieces of overrated $hit. I don't even like Renault and I can't stand Briatore, but the Piquets' behaviour is underhand, dishonourable and blatantly self-serving. Poor losers doesn't even come close to describing it. :irked:

Phew. Rant over.

So anyone think Fernando will get in trouble over this and postpone the announcement to Ferrari?

Seems like Piquet and Symonds have much more to do with it than Alonso...

I don't particulary like Briatore either but Symonds seams like an alright chap.

I hope this case shows the Piquets for what they are.
