The Spanish were absolutely no different to the British, or anybody else for that matter.

We at least we got that far. We used to have the monopoly of imperial cruelty ...

1) The Heysel Stadium disaster was not simply down to Liverpool fans.

The important thing here is that British (English more like it) hooligans were causing riots wherever they went. The British government banning some of the off stadiums helped the problem, but the attitude is still there and they still can be seen today on the Champions Leage. Here in Spain they organize a huge free party for those without tickets as they not they'll very likely create big problems. This is today.

Why are you using examples form the past and labeling them as if its the attitude of Brits today? Also why are you going on about football hooligans as if we think what there doing is right.

They would call me "f***ing paki" on the street in the 90's. That's not the past. Also the Finantial Times titled the article "PIGS in the muck" only about a month ago, referring to Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain.

Racism is wrong so why try to defend the racists in your contry why not just agree with the fact that its wrong.

I do not defend them at all and I agree that racism is just wrong.

nope i have been to spain and i got called 'white spacker'

Either you just made that up or you do not have a clue what they called you. Picture Alonso, Zapatero, Aznar, Torres, Ballesteros ... the average Spaniard is a white as an Englishman so "white" would never be used as an insult.

To Jose Lopez. Your views about the Brits are almost racist in themselves - at the very least you are generalising by describing all brits as eejits who go to Spain and get drunk - rest assured we are not all like that.

Racism is "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race". A racist hates a black person for being black. My beliefs on the average British, on the other hand, arise from a few years of living in England and the attitudes I saw.

I am not "describing all brits as eejits who go to Spain and get drunk". But that tourism exists and is alive and kicking and very common. We just do not do that sort of tourism. Among other things that type of tourism shows little respect for the country visited, which relates to a feeling of superiority. And closing pub time in English was a really sad scene when pubs used to close at 11, it really was. And it was widespread. And it was a dangerous time to be on the street.

It is pointless to drag up old colonial arguments in this context

I certainly was not the one to start. In fact people were saying that Spanish culture is racist and that our history proves it, which is just plain stupid, ignorant and unfair. With respect to our imperial history, like a said, racist do not marry people of the supposedly inferior race, as Spaniards did during the conquest. And 4 incidents blown our of reasonable proportion by British press are no base for judging whether Span is a racist country.

To be honest, this doesnt surprise me. Spain has always been racist going all the way back to that Cortez dude conquering the Aztecs. I'm not saying all Spaniards are racist, but they have a heavy history of racism and the vast majority of them are racist.

I am quite aware of the definition of racism - which is why I said "almost".

Plus, with Lewis is being monickered as 'Kong' and 'Hamiltongo' in posts made today on spanish F1 forums, your protests seem pretty empty to me...

Well, I'm Spanish and the best thing I can say about this thread is that I want use the example of some ignorant retards in this forum to judge both the States and the UK.
Stop reading tabloids for your own good.

Well...allow me:

Hamilton is still a f'ing looser to me  ...go crash in a pit lane Lewis!... 08 Champion? what a joke

Could not have said it better myself
If they would deduct the points that a driver has caused other drivers to lose with unfair driving then Hamilton would currently be at about -147 :D:D

Don't worry. The last laugh belongs to Hamilton and McLaren.

Wow. That's hideous. Are the Spanish that backwards and unsophisticated - to resort to racist taunts and death threats. And we fund that country via the EU thanks the Gordon Brown and Labour. I suppose it is just a big tacky beach resort, but I haven't seen any of them refusing to take money for drinks from black men over there. Horrible people.

On the racism row - those British who have sat and criticised Spain really need to look at their own country.
A country still rife with Sectarian Violence,

Erm, I've lived in England for 26 years and I've never experienced any sectarian violence. Hardly "rife" then, is it?

Or on the London subway system. Their police would shoot Lewis if he wore a back pack, baggy jacket and was running for the train. They made that mistake before.

You're peddling that nonsense again? When it comes to the league table of police forces shooting innocent people I'd say Great Britain is almost certainly in the bottom 25%.

Everyone makes mistakes, some seem worse then others, but happens to everyone.

Yes yes, there's an abundance of sectarian violence on the the Underground. I can't move on a Monday morning for all the wounded Catholics and Protestants lying everywhere. Makes it very trying during the rush hour especially.

1. I said "almost certainly", so it's not as if I presented it as established fact
