Red Bull will be challenging a win. Probably an entertaining race on our hands. Williams, Mclaren and Ferrari will scramble behind them.

Are you expecting the Mercs to break down then? Because frankly there's more likelihood of me @#!$ting gold than a straight RB win.

I can't see anyway for any team to make up the current gap to Mercedes in the space of one race.

Having said that, if RB does win, can you make a sound recording of you delivering the gold :hehe:

Mercs are going to test a new megaphone exhaust in practice. YEAAAAAAAAH :D

They should just have a mp3 player connected to the megaphone with the soundtrack of the old V10s, that should please everyone!

SKY-F1 Lewis Hamilton is odds-on (4/7) to prolong his winning streak by taking the chequered flag for the first time in Spain, with Sky Bet expecting Mercedes' dominant start to the season to continue in Europe.

The Spanish GP has been kind to Ferrari in the past but they're 12/1 outsiders in Barcelona this weekend, with Red Bull given a better chance at 9/1. Williams, meanwhile, can be backed for a win at 33/1, but it would take a brave punter to oppose Mercedes (1/25).

Such has been the form of Hamilton and championship leader Nico Rosberg, who is 9/4 to claim a win this weekend, Sky Bet go as short as 2/1 on Mercedes having at least one car on the podium in every race for the remainder of the season.

They're 1/4 for a one-two in the final standings in the Drivers' Championship, while they're given a 9/4 chance of breaking the record for most number of race wins in a single season, which is currently 15, held by McLaren (1988) and Ferrari (2002, 2004).

This is the start of the season, proper for me. Europe and Barcelona followed by Monaco.
I always think getting back to Europe is when everyone has to turn on the style, as championships can slip away with
bad results between Spain and Silverstone.

Red Bull and Ferrari have to get some wins between this weekend and Silverstone to stand any chance of overturning Merc, imo.

I think Lewis will do well again this weekend though. Looking forward to it. :D

You're right but can you see it happening? The Merc is so far ahead, and even if there's more improvement room for the chasing teams than in a normal season, if it was easy to make up over 2 seconds in 3 weeks, or six months even, we wouldn't have had the RB shemozzle of the last 4 years. And that's if Merc were static, which they're not.

Yes, Roth. Mercedes will not be anywhere near static. Just think of what these teams have done to prepare for this new-look F1. One of the things that will be part of this revolution is that these cars are designed as a multi-layered concept…meaning, designed to have numerous degrees of evolution throughout the season. So image a team like Mercedes AMG getting it so right so early with two of Lewis' wins where they were tuning the car down while he still cruises away. They haven't had to push the W05 yet in the fly-away races, so imagine them deploying the next layer of upgrades come Spain and further imagine if they had to push the car a bit for performance in a race. I guarantee, the Spanish GP will break at least one team…break in the sense that they will have renounced any hope of catching Lewis and Nico this season. Damn daunting if you ask me. Some may already start finding this all a bore this early but for me, it's interesting to watch the emergence of a new powerhouse, particularly how they go about their business.

Such fun...

So... if Mercedes can do it, this year, and their success is well received and celebrated...
Why is it so hard to believe that Red Bull did it for four, without cheating?

Or, for that matter, that Ferrari had such a period of sustained success?

((NOT being facetious, just very curious!!))
#401199
I can't recall anyone saying RB cheated - but their approach sucks, fighting in courtrooms a lot and led by a driver with a generally horrible attitude. Ferrari bent the rules in completely unsporting ways when Schumi was there, and some of their stunts then were unacceptable for me. Silverstone '98 and Austria '02 were just some horrendous incidents that were hard to really accept at the time for any regular fan. I don't know what Mercedes have done this year to cheat personally, if there is something i missed i'd love to hear it. I know last year they completely escaped punishment on that ridiculous tyre test, and should have been nailed for that, but this year they have simply built a great package.

I didn't say that Mercedes cheated!! NOR that they are suspected of it!!
Their success is the result of hard work on the part of everyone on the team,
including and not limited to great engineering, strategies and obviously great
driving by both Hamilton and Rosberg!! They've earnt our respect, no doubt!!

However, it was a different story with Red Bull, as their success was constantly
questioned, from the car, to their strategy to the worth of their lead driver.
They have been condescendingly called a ""soft drinks"" company and Vettel has
been likened to a spoilt brat on many an occasion. So... what's the difference?

Is it ""simply"" subjectivity on our part, as fans, as well as the part of the media? :wavey:

((p.s. Totally agree with you on the tire testing, last year!! :wavey: ))
