Or Button could swipe Vettel to keep his championship hopes alive

Best thing for Button would be to ask Lewis to do to Vettel what he did with Felipe Massa in Singapore

That would be team orders at McLaren and we all know that Witmarsh claims they do not use them.

Actually, the best thing is for Vettel to let them scamper off into the distance. 1 point is all he needs then he's home and dry.

Yep, no risks need to be taken by him here. One thing though... I can imagine SV would love to win his title with a race win too. If the McLarens start to hound him, he'll still defend, in order to spare his blushes, especially when there's the memories of Montreal and Budapest this season.

...Or Button could swipe Vettel to keep his championship hopes alive if you are going to play this card. ...

Uh ...No.

If Button doesn't win Suzuka, regardless what else happens, Vettel takes WDC ...period. Full stop.

well with lewis missing his last lap, doesn't that mean he's gained a set of soft tyres??

No, because he was still sent out on (I'm fairly sure) a new set of softs for his second run. He just didn't get to set a timed lap on them, so he saved some rubber there from doing an out-lap to an inlap rather than a flying lap in between where he'd be pushing.

In fact, I think Lewis has to start on the set of soft tyes he did his first run in q3 on, and that was already a used set when he put them on for his q3 run, whereas Vettel, Button (not sure Webber went faster?) will start on soft tyres that so far have only done 3 laps (only one flying lap).

Another thing occurred to me, really clever thinking by Sauber there, as Kobayashi set sector times, he starts ahead of the Renaults and Schumacher who didn't do any timed runs in q3, but as he pitted rather than set a timed lap maybe he still gets the free choice of tyres?

Would love to see Kamui Kobayashi do well in front of his fans tomorrow. 8-)

I remember when Takuma Sato set the home crowd off with 5th place in the Jordan back in '02.

Of course he'll defend! No blush sparing, it's the only thin to do.

Besides, finishing anything other than 1st is a waste of time.

We will not see any such controversy in Japan; chances of Button winning and Vettel finishing out of the points is very, very, very unlikely... Jenson will want to be best of the rest so I cant see him taking any risks that might put himself out of the race, the race this season is for second best driver on the grid, Vettel has been in a class of his own this season!

:banghead::banghead: Fed up! fed up! Why was jenson dallying around so Lewis had to back off? And then get mugged and then miss his lap and then get Whitmarsh (who Im rapidly going off) blame him and make love to jens on the TV. And then lewis has to blame himself cos this is the role they've cast for him. Never seen lewis so down. Dont even want to watch this race. Im very sad.

The race is tomorrow RC of little faith.

I know. Dont want to watch. I know he'll get screwed somehow.
#278825
yeah yeah. Well not in the mood for you right now Andrew.

Ah well, better keep my conspiracy theory to myself. That may upset you even more but then again it does suggest that Whitmarsh is economic with the truth.

3rd is an ok place to start on the clean side of the track. I believe that races have been won from 3rd.
