No point complaining. The deal is signed and sealed.

Though if you do get a reply I might be temped to annoy the Beeb as much as they have annoyed me today.

A response from the BBC Trust:

Formula 1, unhappy with the announcement of a new rights agreement with the BBC and Sky
Publication date: 29 July 2011

Complaint

We have received complaints from some Formula 1 fans who are unhappy that the BBC will no longer have exclusive rights to broadcast the sport from 2012.

The BBC's response

We know that Formula 1 has an extremely passionate following in the UK and that some fans will be disappointed that not all races will be available exclusively live on the BBC from next season.

We are operating in a very tough financial climate and in common with all areas of the BBC, BBC Sport is having to make significant cost savings over the next few years in order to operate within the constraints of the licence fee settlement, therefore we have to make some difficult choices.

We believe this deal represents good value for money for licence fee payers. We retain live coverage of half of the race weekends and we will have extended highlights of the remaining races so we are pleased that all of the action from Formula 1 for the next seven seasons will remain on BBC television. Online coverage of the race weekends that we broadcast will remain the same, and we will carry all the news and reports from the rest of the season. Radio coverage will not change whilst the most popular races - the British Grand Prix, the Monaco Grand Prix and the final race of the season will continue to be broadcast live on BBC One.

I expect a lot more to transpire over the weekend; personally the deal with Sky isn't the worse thing ever; I can still watch live because I have access to Sky through the Internet. But from a point of view of people that neither want or have financial means to have Sky TV; it would have been better for the BBC to drop coverage altogether as the sport has to be broadcast on free-to-air channels, so ITV, Channel 4, Five or one of the digital channels could have picked it up. Bernie may be a businessman but what effect will this decision have in the long term, freezing out half of the passionate followers of F1 in one of the biggest markets in the world for half the year is very likely to have a negative impact on the sport in the long run!

I just sent them my complaint

'Formula 1 fans will turn off in their millions after the BBC decide they can't afford f1 but they can waste millions on BBC 3 & 4 that no one apart from druggies up at daft o clock with the munchies watch. Or the millions they waste on wages for ridiculous presenters that people find as funny as a kick in the nutsack. Who makes these decisions? The f1 community is outraged. I love the BBC f1 coverage but next year will watch the sky coverage only in protest. I just wiped my arse with my tv licence.'

He told the teams that the BBc will show the whole race as highlights

How can you show the whole race as highlights? It's either the whole race or highlights.

I think horner and whitmarsh have had the wool pulled over thier eyes , I just hope the team sponsers can get their heads together and start dictating who controls f1 ,

I doubt it. They are perfectly happy with this. The way I see it is they get a slice of teh free to air revenue and then another hit from the pay to view revenue.

Bernie needs putting in a home in bahrain safely away from our beloved sport.

Why? MrE is a businessman. It is his business to generate a return for CVC and its investors. If he wasn't maximising the possible returns then he wouldn't be doing his job would he? F1 is not a sport for us enthusiasts, it is a business. Anyone who says that they would have done something different if they were in MrE's place to my mind is a liar and not a very good businessman/woman.

This mess has been caused by the BBC not wanting to pay a not unreasonable amount to maintain the coverage as it is at the moment. If you want someone to blame, blame the BBC. Look at how much money they waste on channels with low viewing figures and the sheer number of pundits and presentors they send to cover various sports and events. The BBC has been wasting money for years in this way and the mess with F1 is the result as they claim to not have the cash to spare.

It is an unreasonable amount, just as the fee Bernie charges to host races is an unreasonable amount. He's a greedy unscrupulous man, and he gets away with it!

'Shame on you!!! You spend millions on tv programmes that fringe communities watch and you drop F1 which millions of people watch avidly. I dont want to watch highlights and I dont want to watch sky. Thanks for ruining my favourite sport!!!

I'm annoyed at this and even though I am with Sky I know nearer the time it will be an excuse for Sky to start charging more than they already do. True they have admitted they wont show ads during the race but Sky is totally football focused how are they going to fit it in when it over laps in to the football season. I am sure Chelsea v Man U you will be the main focus for their channels and F1 will sit in the corner on Sky Sports 4. The audience will surely drop and in the long run the sport will suffer as It's clear a lot of fans will not be getting Sky to watch F1. The BBC will beat Sky in viewing figures for F1 even though they will only show half a season.

True F1 is a business but the sport is really starting to thrive again because of the good coverage the BBC have given it over the last couple of years why throw that away.

I feel really let down by the Beeb since they have done this to save about £17mil which isn't even half of what it costs them at the moment for F1. Dedicate more money towards what? More epic shows like The Great British Weather. Maybe they should stop employing more than one presenter for every new show they come up with that might just save them a few a quid.

I would completely disagree with that. Given the amount of sheer rubbish that the BBC airs and has pleanty of funds for, it is a total disgrace that F1 is the sacrifial lamb in the BBC's waste and penny pinching.

I think that MrE is a typical successful businessman. You don't become that successful and rich by being ethical and crowd pleasing. MrE has done nothing wrong here except generating a return for CVC's investors - if he wasn't doing that he would be in the dole que.

It is the BBC who are at fault here. They have pleanty of cash for the olympics, football, show jumping, golf, period dramas, repeats, terrible "comedy" shows with far too much canned laughter, some more repeats, z-list nonentities in sequins, a few more repeats, forgettable period dramas, Family Guy repeats, news with far too many presenters, hugely ridiculous salaries for presenters, Top Gear, even more repeats, jetting reporters around the world at a drop of a hat when they could buy footage from other broadcasters and do the blue screen job or a voice over at a fraction of the cost, yet even more repeats and Dominic Littlewood (actually he's quite good, seems a nice guy - I don't begrudge my licence fee being spent on his programs as they are informative). Yes the BBC is so hard up(!)

That's why I've not done a lengthy e-mail to them. It won't make any difference and will make me even more angry, disappointed and let down. I'll just get a generic automated reply which will annoy me even more.

Today's viewing on the BBC for me was Only Fools and Horses, lunchtime news and a DIY program in the morning and that's the usual for me through the day. 2 hours of BBC viewing and I didn't really pay too much attention to the news or the DIY program (1 hour). What great value for money the BBC is(!) Actually, a blank screen is more often than not an entertaining alternative to the crap the BBC airs! :irked:

I've just found how the BBC can save £22 million. Warning: don't read this is you have high blood pressure or are away to go to bed 'cos it'll get you mad.

The thing that annoys me most is i like the BBC coverage so much I will probably watch their coverage but will have to pay for sky sports now to watch only half the races.

On a brighter note I got an email today saying I've been picked for a tour of the mclaren technology centre

They were struggling to even afford highlights for that but sure enough they wont give up Premier League Highlights to ITV again.

Although I think they have lost The Football League stuff altogether but true they should of been looking at axing Strictly Dancing On Crap Jesus Christ Superstar whatever sort of stuff.

You may have lost the F1 BBC but you best leave Have I Got News For You and Top Gear alone! :)
