What d'you reckon's going on?

I think it's obvious; McLaren think it's going to rain tomorrow afternoon; that's the only logical reason they would go with a wet setup; I don't believe that can change wing settings on the grid?

well I know that. But Jens said they hadnt gone for a wet set up, he said they had an option to cover all eventualities (but was disapointed with the pace). Which is pretty much what Horner said about the Red Bull set up (apart from the disappointed bit).

I reckon at least one of the Ferrari's will get Vettel in to the first corner. The Red Bull was only just quicker in the qualifying session; over the race distance, I think Ferrari have them covered unless the weather or incidents get in the way.

Wow! That's confidence. I think this is the best race so far for a Ferrari win on outright pace. But, I still think Fernando or Felipe will have to work hard to beat Vettel.

The wild card will depend on exactly how McLaren have gambled on weather (if they have done) and what happens there.

It does show how we have to take inter-race predictions and discussions with a pinch of salt. We've heard so much about how McLaren were going to be quick here, and they aren't.

Well, I'm basing it on what we've seen at the past couple of races. Alonso's start in Spain was brilliant, he's had good getaways in several races so far in the season, and his pace on the soft tyre there was good. Indeed, his undoing really was just the hard tyre. Here we have the same tyres as in Monaco where he was able to match Vettel's pace throughout the grand prix. With a good DRS zone and a powerful engine, I'd be willing to put money on the Ferrari's in an uninterrupted race. :)

Yeah don't get that either. You would sort of expect the driver to have a better idea of what is going on with setups compared to the team manager but hard to say. Hamilton seemed equally despondent though. Either way i'm surprised by theirs and Mercedes' lack of pace.

Ferrari looking pretty damn strong for tomorrow on raw pace but anything can happen, can't wait, Canada never fails to deliver!

Quick props to Maldonado, he convincingly outqualified Barrichello today. I thought DLR did well too considering the situation. Di Resta pulls it out once again...

According this article on PlanetF1.com; McLaren have gone for a wet setup... so it looks like an all or nothing gamble on rain!

Jens actually said something along the lines of "We don't have separate set-ups in F1 anymore, we're used to it raining during a GP so we have a set-up that will work in any scenario". Which I thought was a bit odd, how many wet GP's have we has so far this year? Not a lot.

Here, I found his exact quote: “But Formula 1 cars these days, you don’t set the car up definitely for wet conditions because we’re so used to it raining during the race that we have an optimised set-up that will work in pretty much every condition”.

I don't know how close you can get to rain without it actually raining! It was so overcast and dark really, very difficult to get quality action shots but I did my best today. I'm amazed how great F1 fans are, a couple of guys from Saskatchewan even bought me breakfast today. My seating section included a displaced couple from the UK now living in San Francisco, a young guy from Columbia studying in Toronto dressed with a Vettel t-shirt, and a German die-hard Rosberg fan!

Wow! Those pics are amazing

One of the best things about attending a GP is being surrounded by F1 fans, especially if you live in the US where it's usually: F1, what?

Plus, there is usually quite a lot of lovely eye candy... i.e. hot Italians :hehe:

That is one of the best and most surprising things about F1 for me, the fans are superb, everyone gets along with no trouble at all. You meet all sorts at the GP's it just adds to the flavour!

My best GP ever was back when Senna was racing. I was about twelve, a huge Senna fan, surrounded by Brazilians who were screaming "ole, ole, ole ola, ola SENNA!!!" The whole grandstand was shaking. They took me under their wing, there I was, nerdy British girl stomping and shouting with the beautiful Brazilians. I have a pic of it somewhere, I'm wearing corduroy knickerbockers <- this verifies the story.

Two days later, my parents left on a worldwide adventure. first stop: Rio De Janeiro. Plane was full of the same Senna fans.

This is my favourite F1 story :wavey:

As of right now, that's looking like a moderately comfortable bet. According to weather.com, Montreal has a 60% chance of rain today. On an hourly basis they have Montreal at 30% right about now, then 40% at 7:00 and 8:00 AM (local), 50% at 9:00 and 10:00, and then 60% from 11:00 through to 5:00 PM.

I don't know that they would need a special wet setup for that though.
