I knew it.

The selection of DEVGRU to conduct the bin Laden mission has irked some in Delta, who are miffed that their organization —traditionally considered the pre-eminent special mission unit for direct action operations on land —was overlooked for such a prestigious tasking. “The infighting between the tribes is at an all-time high,” said a field-grade Army special operations officer. “People [in Delta] are livid.”

Some Delta personnel think that the fact that SEALs command both JSOC and U.S. Special Operations Command —Adm. Eric Olson in the latter case —was a critical factor behind DEVGRU’s selection for the mission, the field-grade Army special operations officer said.

Haha, with a large US-UK membership on here i was wondering when the inevitable special forces debate would pop up. They really keen it on Youtube.

SAS though.......different class 8-)

Can you explain why?

Can i prove why? No, i can explain why, but your mind is already made up.

SAS are world reknowned for being the worlds best, most people agree with this conclusion. Good enough reason by itself.

Also, there is a set number of press-ups, bench pulls etc, that candidates must pass in seal training to pass (from what ive read), SAS selection involves being "illegally" punched about in order to break you and politely tell you to f*** off as youve failed. The selection is a different class, the training is a different class, the history is a different class.

There is a reputed Sas selection part in which they keep you in a nice bath of local welsh (training takes part in mountains of wales)sheeps guts called " the sickener",others include being thrown down stairs in a locker.

Last but not least in the spirit of Britishness and proffesionalism, the SAS and military alike operate on half a shoe string, simple tools, simple effective weapons.

The US are given a free budget to use whatever they like, red dot sights, prototype rifles, hordes of ammo.

Just done believe anyone is better then the SAS by quite a bit. Most world SF are based and trained regularly by members.

Theres not many things we do best in the world here in Blighty, food, weather, but our military pound for pound is the best, tried and tested. The SAS are no exception.

Cool beans man, its your reality I guess. Not saying you're wrong as the SAS are respected across the globe for their tactics, professionalism, and being the grand daddy of SF and SOF units. But to say that the US has a "free budget" to do use whatever they like, and that navy seals could be considered as gym rats with guns sounds just plain ignorant.

It wasnt a put down and i didnt call them gym rats, im not ignorant either, i used to want to be both SAS and an RAF Pilot and i spent many hours looking into these things, spetsnaz, sayaret matkal, gign, gsg9, sas, seals, delta force, US air force, I just believe we do military best pound for pound, we have a proven track record in it. Im happy to admit what we're s*** at, food, friendliness, weather, football, but our SAS and military are IMO a cut above. Would we win a war with the US, no, we'd get absolutely smashed, hell we'd hardly beat the french. But we arent talking about that, talking about what special force is best, and i havent seen anything that beats ours tbh.

I'm not going to get bogged down in this type of debate, but I just wanted to make one point. Not so long ago (must have been about 5-10 years ago), there was some big military competition arranged that was supposed to be a friendly banter type thing between international forces, between the SAS and the Seals, and I'm afraid to say that the SAS utterly mopped the floor with the Seals to an almost embarassing extent, it wasn't marginal, it was a massive difference... I don't know the details now, but I do remember reading about it at the time... Other than that, I don't have the facts, but just thought it was worth mentioning.

Oh, that and Chuck Norris would take them all down single handed.... :D
