The fact is that being third in Q3 at Abu Dhabi, Alonso had won the WDC unless he broke. Most of you know what I believe about the race. No need to repeat it, but Chris Dyer, not Stefano, should have been fired. For the size of his “mistake” and just in case that it wasn’t a mistake.
Alonso was there when it most counted and Lewis wasn’t and some of the Lewis mistakes at the end of the season were unbelievable, that’s for me the difference. And if we put ourselves to analyze the whole season, I also remember Valencia.

WTF!!!
Clearly in everyones life they have made a strategy calls that did not reach fruition but to say Dyer should be fired is ludicrous at best. I guess you would have made the correct decision right since you portray yourself as such an expert? Its frickin racing man and not all strategies workout so the sooner you realize that the better off you will be.

I feel like balancing out the amount of times you tell me it so: CALM DOWN! :hehe::D

Your effort does not go unrecognized  .

As in so many other things, we disagree in that point. There is no need to be an expert to see that the strategy was crap. Different people, different opinions and that’s all. I hope you can live with it.

I would say great news, instead of more news. Apparently in Ferrari they are not so sure that it was a simple and under stable mistake. Thanks Vaptin, you have put a light into my sad life.

They seem to be very vague about what Dyer's going to do. Sounds like constructive dismissal to me. Similar thing happened to Geoff Willis at Honda Racing F1 Team after the RA106 debuted and seemed about as mediocre as the BAR 007. They moved him out of the Technical Director role into a vaguely defined other technical management and design role and installed a HONDA man in his place. It was a move pretty clearly designed to force him out. Ironically, Geoff finally left for real right before the RA106 became quick, allowing Button to score more points than any other driver over the final six races. Which means it was probably Geoff who made the car quick. Which probably explains why the RA107 sucked so much. So for Ferrari's sake, I hope their decision wasn't quite so knee-jerk

The same guy who snatched the WDC for Kimi in Ferrari, and masterminded all those race wins for Michael Schumacher early on is now replaced for a bungle in the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi.

This is what I love about Ferrari, they are so stupidly impulsive it makes me laugh. It would've made my offseason if Stefano did indeed resign as well. I hope they suffer the consequences of this change in 2011 and beyond.

Hello Ham, how is going the New Year?
About Chris Dyer, maybe he can go now to mastermind more victories for MS or Vettel. I believe that in Mercedes they could take him in with joy. You know, all those ancient friends, Michael, Ross…. like in the old good times again.

The New Year is great so far mate!

The point is everyone makes mistakes, and Dyer has proved his capabilities time and time and time again. He can only learn from these really bad experiences which he will be armed with should the situation occur again. Who says Fry will handle it any better next time around? Or anyone else?

I doubt the rest of the team were screaming No! No! When Dyer called Alonso in? They probably sat on their stools nodding their heads in agreement and keeping their mouth shut. Now they've labeled him a scapegoat for the mistake. This is silly management and coming from such a big team it just makes it all the more sillier.

been waaay too busy. But this is some news.

First, Stefano showed reponsability for the fumble, which as he said himself wasnt entirely his (or anybodys) fault in particular, but because of the devastating effects.... in many other sports, heads would have definitely rolled so perhaps he thought about his head first.

Pat Fry has been in the news for quite a while, yes he's replacing Dyer FOLLOWING the Abu Dhabi race.... but anything done after that race, and anyting planned for this season would have "followed" that race.... In any case, i think i agree with Jack, just IN CASE it wasnt an honest mistake, something had to be done.....

Besides, for a couple of yrs people have been saying Ferrari needed some changes. So here comes some change... Why the dis?
Also, if Stefano doesnt get a championship in the next 1-2 yrs he should resign for a more managerial (ie less sporting director) position. I think he is a great manager, but Ferrari has shown weaknesses in the past seasons.
