Four mules as one, I agree 1000%. We count it a great season because it finished in such dramatic fashion, but the racing was tepid at best.

Over the course of the entire season, excluding the first lap, how many times did the race lead change hands due to overtaking? Excluding lead changes resulting from contact or mechanical failure, once the green flag melée had run its course and the drivers were up to speed, when was the race leader ever overtaken?

I don't recall a single occurrence (but I might be forgetful).

Canada, Turkey, Germany (lol), Italy if you count pitstops...

Lead changes aren't the only thing that makes a great race though, which is what you appear to be implying here. There were so many fights through the field in so many races! Hardly tepid! I can even list em all if you really want. :P

At the risk of alienating my EU friends, battles for lead changes are like home runs, and battles lower down in the grid are like singles. I'm split on this topic because F1 in general excites me, I agree no one likes a parade race, but I can't help think that a better place to point the finger to solve that problem is the cars not the tracks.

Yes there are narrow tracks with little or no run off and gravel runoff that will punish you severely, but there is an inherent problem with cars that become unstable when running too close to other cars. So they're forced to pass only during braking zones or with higher top speed in the straights. Increase mechanical grip and decrease the extreme reliance on astronomical downforce and the problem goes away.

That is patently absurd. If there are no lead changes, it's called a parade, not a race.

So by your logic, a race like Brazil 2008 or Britain the same year weren't great races. I'm afraid THAT is absurd mate.

I'm sure someone slightly older will come and disagree, saying that Australia should host the finale. :hehe:

I'm slightly older and think that :P:D

Bring back Adelaide!

I read here somewhere someone saying the track at the beginning of the season and at the end should be a track that allows for overtaking. For me every track should allow for overtaking and if it doesn't then it should be modified to do so.

Hopefully next year KERS and adjustable rear wings will help.

I think the raceat AD would of been poor no matter what the layout was even if someone other than Tilke designed it, I am not a Tilke fan but he can not help the fact that sand and dust made the track terrible off line.

As for the season, I think if it was not for Koby and the FI's in the rain the season review would be boring.

Seb, did he deserve the WDC... hmm he made a lot of mistakes!

How about ending the season at Brands Hatch??

not up to f1 spec really

I realize that I was only trying to appease the 'brains' of the forum.

Yup. Lots of action in the midfield. Also, podium positions also changed a lot during the races.
(I can't list them though.... maybe... if i tried real hard... hehe)

People always complain that in F1 its the fastest car (and not driver) that wins... and that there are not too many overtakes.
But how about: If there were lots of overtaking, the slower cars would NEVER get a point.

To me, F1 of this yr was good enough; would have been better (to me) if they had kept the refueling, decreased the size of that abnormal front wing (increasing the width of the front tires accordingly).

I'd like to see more testing... but then again, the get-the-new-parts-to-work-during-the-race-weekend thing turned out pretty interesting...

IMHO If Only The Fans and The Drivers is given 'some' power to vote for the track which they want to see for the next season.. This way the designer will do a proper thought before making new track and for the old tracks which not been voted for the season will do something like lay-out changing to make sure they will be chosen next..

Australia should always start the season and Brazil should always end it with Silverstone right in the middle
