As good as Senna? Impossible to say. Too many differences in our ever changing sport to actually compare the drivers of today to those of the past.

I will say though that Alonso is better than Schumacher since they have raced each other for the championship properly and Schumacher couldn't do it, even with the help of the German Stewards & the Ferrari International Aid in 2006. (Banning Renault's mass damper system).

Unless Alonso falls out with Ferrari he will win a lot of championships with them over the next decade. Hope the McLaren folk are ready for that. :whip:

Here is a little video I watch the odd time of Alonso in a Minardi actually trying to pass Fisichella in a Beneton! Pity Alonso wasn't put in a decent car in his first season.

over the next decade? He is 30 next year maybe another 4 years he will remain in F1 but im not sure i can see Alonso in the sport as a late 30s driver. Aside to the fact i think Ferrari will get Kubica who will push Alonso out of the team just as he pushed Kimi out.

Alonso can not be compared to Senna; they have never raced against each other and in Senna's heyday; the cars didn't have all sorts of trickery to keep the car on the road. For example in Senna's day it took immense commitment and driver skill to maximise the cars speed in the 130R corner, today it's flat out even in the wet in the best cars!

A good insight into Nando
I like the "Bush" answer.

alonso is a quality driver and i respect his skills, BUT NO ONE and not even lewis can ever be as good as senna, although those two may get close! and vettel too

I think Hammer278 is faster than Senna on a wet track

Maybe but to me it seems like Alonso loves F1 and that the sort of competitive character he is even in a slow car he will race until he starts to lose speed naturally(late 30's, possibly early 40's).

Kubica pushing Alonso out of Ferrari in the future? Na, Kubica and Alonso would be good team mates in my opinion and there would be nothing in it. It is a driver combination that might actually work since they get on so well off the track.

Ayrton didn't have to ask his teamate to let him past,he was normally infront of him anyway

Although I think what Berger was saying was more like he thinks he's the best driver at the moment.Bar possibly Lewis I think he probly is.The only thing I would say about Alonso is you don't see him overtake much, not as much as Lewis.Although that could be down to the design of the car.

I think he has said earlier in his career he doesnt want to be around as a 30+ something racing around. But then again he also once said he didnt want to race for Ferrari to be like Ayrton. :hehe:

Or because Lewis's car has great race pace but lacks quali pace, meaning he is behind lots of cars that he faster than (in the race). Or it is because most of us see BBC footage which is obviously biased towards Lewis. However i havnt seen any great overtakes by Lewis in the last few races.

dont think they are that biased!, they give all the championship contenders the same amount of praise and critisism!

Tv pictures and on screen graphics during the race are the same for all countries. The bbc don't have their own cameras there (for the race itself) or even direct the shots. Though the entire f1 audience isn't subjected to Legard.

You have to be kidding. The BBC can be so horrendously biased towards Hamilton/Button sometimes it can be hard to listen to. The biggest culprits are Legard & Kravitz.

I will say this though, Martin Brundle is not biased and gives such a balanced opinion the whole time. If the BBC ever lose him I would switch over to another station to watch F1.
