HRT's loss is our gain if it means more time in the commentary box for Karun, so I hear. We get the BBC feed here so maybe we'll get a chance to hear him. Others have spoken highly of his informed comments and quick grasp of what's going on.

He is very well up to speed on everything, and seems to be a an extremely pleasant young man. I wish him well

I think Karun is a cool guy, but I don't rate him very highly. Indias #1 driver in my opinion is Narain Karthikeyan, that guy's driving before in the Jordan in the 1st half of 'that' season was a joy to watch. Very much like Massa when he first joined, car all over the place but somehow the laptimes coming in fast and hard. Karun wasn't exactly brilliant in the leagues before F1, and he hasn't exactly trumped Bruno so far. They're pretty much equal, and Bruno isn't special either.

but the difference is that bruno has the potential to be speical, ( im not saying that just because of the amazing ayrton), but ayrton did say once that if they thought he was good then they should watch bruno, but nevertheless i think its a sad ending for karun's f1 career for now

A bit off topic; but Bruno Senna has done nothing to impress over Chandhock IMO! The only thing that Senna has is a famous name over his Indian team mate. Remember a certain Nelson Piquet Jr; he turned out to be a damp squib with a famous surname, I believe Bruno will be the same, the only reason he is still sat in the HRT cockpit is because of his name; which will inevitably bring in more $$$ than Chandhock's name!

I can't see evidence that Senna (Bruno) has outperformed Chandock, although I feel it'd be pretty harsh to compare them to one another since I reckon at half the races at least one of them will have some form of technical problem with the car. But I bet the F1 paddock have a better idea of how they've been performing.

Senna's average start grid position is 22.25 (in 12 starts) vs 23.3 for Chandok (in 10 starts). However, Chandok has finished 80% of his starts (8/10) and improved on his position an average of 6 spots. Senna only finished 42% of his starts (5/12) and improved his position an average of 4.8 spots.

Senna's best result was 16th (x2). Chandok came 14th (x2) and 15th (x1).

That's exactly what I think, too.

It's only fair to compare them directly against each other, that HRT is the worst car on the grid no arguments. It'd also be fairer to use I feel quali stats, since I reckon more often than not they'll have reliable problems - at least theres a bigger chance in q1 that those won't affect performance.

Yours stats also show that he wasn't really doing badely enough to lose the seat on driving merit, and I doubt any stat would show you Sakon is doing better than Chandock.

Okay ...

There have been five races thus far that both drivers finished. Senna came better than Chandok at one race (China) and by one position (16th/17th). Chandok came better in the other four (Malaysia, Monaco, Turkey and Europe), by a total of 17 positions (15/16, 14/22, 20/22 and 18/24).

Five races, same track, same time, head to head, mano-a-mano and Chandok came better in 80% and came an average of 3.2 spots ahead over all five.

I'm convinced that both of these drivers are class after their performances in GP2, and trying to rate them based on this F1 season is like rating a singer when struck with the flu. I think even comparing the two can be missleading in this situation. I remember barichello used to regularly get one over button, until the season that really mattered when button stepped up and showed us all who's number one. I'll judge them once they get into a real F1 team, i just hope it happens.

Frankly neither driver has exactly outdriven the car like like Vettel in the Toro Rosso, Alonso in the MInardi and M Schumacher in the Jordan. Quoting performances from lower formula is silly, how many times have we seem a promising young driver from GP2/F3000 come into F1 and fail dismally, Bruno has a lot to prove to even be mentioned in the same sentence as the great Ayrton IMO! he is being carried by his surname right now.
