I'm an atheist, however I will defend the fact that it's not "Catholics" doing this it's repressed homosexual twink lovers or pedophiles with the ability to hide in the church environment and be the fox in a hen house. Until Catholics don't force the church to act preferably by withholding donations, it's not going to end. I heard an interview on NPR a couple of years ago that a priest actually had an idea of purchasing a deserted island somewhere in the Caribbean to dump all of the clergy that had a history of child molestation and abuse. This was in the 1950's so it's nothing that's news to anyone that's had their eyes open.
Its individuals doing these things; the problem is they can hide within a 'parent oraganization' and mix with many others trying to do some good, while the same organization will try to keep its reputation and that of those doing good; They dont have to ban churches or priests. All they have to do is treat them with the same controls they do to any other children related institution...
The Vatican recently stated that all Catholic participants in an abortion will be automatically excommunicated Ratzinger, Ratzinger, you're such a reactionary arsehole! 
Hmmm, the catholic view on abortion is that they don't condone it. If you're a catholic, you shouldn't participate or condone abortion...
but being a catholic is your choice. They are not forcing anyone. Besides... the punishment is only excomunion, its not that harsh a punishment
compared with many nations where abortion is illegal. Its not even as harsh as many other religion-based states' laws against other 'religious' and moral crimes.....
