Welcome Mark! Have you ever been to Amsterdam? Just wondering because I am interested in traveling there.
Have fun with that thesis, good luck!
:)

Yes! Of course i've been to Amsterdam! it's a great city for pubs, bars, disco's, tourist attractions and shopping! It's a shame that Amsterdam is only known for its red light district and drugs policy :( it has so much more to offer. Most English people only go there for the beer tho.. haha (just like my brother, he went there with some friends a couple of years ago.

I didn't know about the red light district, but I have concluded that a lot of major cities have something like that. But obviously the whole place isn't going to be filled with prostitutes and druggies, so I'm sure it's a fine city. Thanks for the info!

Oh, thank you for that lovely picture... WAIT IS THAT A GIRL IN THE WINDOW
I know what a red light district is but I haven't had a first-hand experience, if you know what I mean.

Yes, the ladies of the night sit or stand or do whatever in their windows advertising themselves, soliciting business. They open the window a bit to talk to a prospect and negotiate the price.
There's a similar district in Hamburg (Reeperbahn) and one short side street is Herbertstrasse, which has the ladies in the windows. Herbertstrasse is 'blocked' by wooden panels so you can't see from the main drag until you actually enter through those wooden gates. Entrance for women is officially not permitted.

Ugh, I had a feeling. Seems like a sad occupation.

Why sad?
They make a lot of money, have their own work hours, can choose their customers, are in a protected environment (as opposed to street hookers), get frequent health checks, have fun :whip::whip: (or they wouldn't do it anymore) and might help some poor bloke to lose his virginity, which can be hilarious in itself

I think I picked the wrong word. Not so much sad, but more like disappointing. I guess this is the modest little girl in me that comes out every once in a while, but I wouldn't want to do it! It just seems gross.

I have to say, although I live in Holland, I always feel more comfortable when i'm in England. The people are a lot more friendly and social compared to the people in Holland. Holland basically is flat and boring ;) And of course, England is the home of motoring so there are a lot more races for me to go to ;)

I would disagree with that from my experiences with both but we did have a bloke from London who became a good friend and drinking buddy.
