I honestly don't know a lot about Watkins Glen.

The Glen is one of the most awesome and historical tracks in existence, imho, with a great F1 history that has since been tossed in the bin by Bernie's greed. CART/INDY and NASCAR still race there so why not F1?? Checkout YouTube and you will see why :) .

Why does Bernie not want to participate there?
It's a cool circuit, I've watched some old races on that track and I love playing it in games. But I don't think it meets FIA safety criteria. I would also love to see a Formula One race at Road America.

Why does it not meet safety criteria?

I ask so many questions :\

I'm pretty sure the run-off areas are too small and the barriers aren't up to the standards set. But I wouldn't want a good track butchered so that F1 could go there. Personally, I think it's probably safe enough, but of course things can always happen.

Also, asking questions is good - it's how we learn things. It should be promoted and praised. It's never a bad thing. :)

The barriers that poor Francois Cevert was killed on are still in the same positions.

There is a beautiful 4 mile track in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin that would be an even better F1 track. It has everything: fast corners, long straights, gradients, passing places. All it needs is a resurfacing, pits and barrier improvements especially at the Katherine Legge corner.

Another great track that is worthy of a F1 race.

It would be great if they could fix it up a little and accommodate Formula 1 at the track :)
Then maybe F1 could get some more American fans and attention here in the United States.

americans have some pretty hardcore circuits, but theyre just a tad bit deadly.

the safest one would be indianapolis infield layout.

its a shame that the majority of US motorsport fans lose interest in F1 after 2-3 years and then they fade out until another state is ready to chew the GP Circus up and spit it out

Yeah, I think that another big problem is the lack of seating and facilities at so many of the good road courses. Road America would be a dream come true for me, its an amazing track and would be perfect for F1 with its long straights and high speed corners, but it will never happen because of the kind of money Bernie is asking for from these circuits, Indy is the only place that could possibly come up with that kind of money.

Watch this and tell me it wouldn't be amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QX4DKt0H9g

If Monza & Suzuka had a baby that was molested by Mugello, this would be the result.
