If Kimi won't sign for McLaren on their terms **** him, money is more important to him.
Who else is up for a chance of getting a Macca seat next year.

As far as I know, it's between Kovy and Kimi. At least Whitmarsh said it's going to be a finn in their 2nd seat in Macca next year.
SUCKS for Heidfeld. Thought I still believe they're going to get Kimi eventually

The Kimi move now makes a lot more sense to McLaren! i didn't realise this is how the financing had worked out. What a bargain! Still, it's a bit silly that Kimi stands to make more money from a sabbatical than if he raced. McLaren have never been keen on paying their drivers a lot of money, I'll bet they won't budge on the extra £2,000,000. I don't know who I'll support next season if Kimi's out though...

Ferrari intentionally structured Kimi's 10/17 M per year contract, trying to create chaos within McLaren. Offer Kimi 10M plus the Ferrari 10M. In no way should Kimi's total compensation package exceed 80% of that of Lewis.

I can't see why Ferrari wanted to be rid of him in the first place. I thought it was he that would want to leave more than they want him to, in which case it should cost them nothing to allow him out of the contract, even perhaps asking for some compensation from him. He's a champion and a great driver, so I just can't understand why they'd be so desparate to get rid of him as to pay that many millions. If he's that valuable, they should keep him. If they have to pay him off anyway, then they might as well make him drive for them. I don't think Massa's going to amount to much anymore. Maybe Fernando didn't want to have Kimi as a teammate and figures Massa can be some #2 that makes him look good. Why couldn't they sell his contract to another team like McLaren?

In any case, what Kimi got is in the past, it's his money now, and he can go into the market and get whatever he is worth, so if he's worth $15M, then that's what McLaren should pay him.

According to his termination deal with Ferrari, the Italian team has promised to pay Raikkonen €17m if he does not race in F1 next year, and €10m if he finds suitable employment elsewhere.

Realising this, McLaren has reportedly offered Raikkonen just 5 million for the 2010 seat, concluding that €15m in total earnings is a very healthy amount for the 2007 world champion.

Ok... so in other words, McLaren considers Kimi a 15 million dollar a year driver and yet they're trying to haggle him for 5 million via Ferrari's financial lifeboat... which by the way is none of McLaren's business anyway.

If I was Kimi, I'd tell them to jump in a lake.

Cheers

McLaren may not consider Kimi to be a 15 mil driver. They may consider him a 5 mil driver and so that is what they're offering. That Ferrari have paid him 10 mil not to drive is neither here nor there to Mclaren.
