i'm worried for alonso now, if he knew and the FIA might want to look into if he did or not then he could also be charged for bringing the sport into disrepute by not notifiying the FIA about it.

Hopfully tho since they have kicked out Symonds and Briatore they will just get DSQ'ed from last year and perhaps DIQ'ed from this year.

Hope Richards gets the Job now though, shame about Pat i don't care about Briatore.

Yeah, but the fact that Alonso hasn't been mentioned along with Piquet, Briatore and Symonds is seeming to indicate that he had no idea.

Of course, this does bring about another question: how did this race affect the 2008 championship?

Don't think it really affected the title, but if Lewis had of lost by one popint instead of win then it would of

 if they change it and Massa ends up becoming the winner i will find and kill max mosely. :banghead:

need to check this..

I seriously doubt this, because no one knows what could have happened if the crash wouldn't have taken place. Maybe Massa would've crashed during the GP. You just can't change a world champion with assumings

They can't change the championship result, Hamilton will remain champion. However, if Massa hadn't dashed in to the pits when the safety car came out, he looked set to win that race. So that would've been an extra ten points, but it's impossible to say what would have happened because without the safety car the positions would have been totally different. To me, it would just mean that the result of the 2008 championship was questionable, which is unfortunate really but there is nothing that could be done about it short of discounting all scores from the Singapore grand prix, which would not be a good solution at all (and it would change the result of the championship - Lewis would end up losing the title by five points).

My own take on the situation :)
The Renault Team have today released this statement.

"The ING Renault F1 Team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

It also wishes to state that its managing director, Flavio Briatore and its executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, have left the team.

Before attending the hearing before the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on 21 September 2009, the team will not make any further comment."

This now means that Renault F1 team have, essentially, pleaded guilty to race fixing allegations. The hearing of the WMSC will now only be a formality and to decide Renault's punishment.

But where does this leave Fernando Alonso?

He claims to have had no knowledge of the situation, but, with this latest twist in the tale, will he now admit to have known about the situation and will he be punished?

He may also take advantage fo the situation by saying that he doesn't want to be with a team who have cheated as severally as this, therefore giving him the chance to leave Renault and be confirmed as Ferrari driver for 2010.

impossible, they can't and won't start talking in 'what ifs.' All they could do would be to remove Alonso's win, and that would actually promote Lewis to 2nd in the grand prix and give him more than a one point lead over Massa. But I hope they don't take away his win, providing Alonso didn't know about it.

Surprised this has happened, not at all the outcome I expected.

Words fail me - I wonder if large betting sums were also involved...

A dark day indeed for F1. I'm absolutely amazed such individuals could risk the life/career of their driver, other drivers and fans at the side of the track. It is unbelievable. :nono::rolleyes::thumbdown:

I just hope, when all the dust settles, that we don't find Fernando Alonso directly involved in these events - he remains a driver I have a great deal of admiration and respect for. :)

its not so much the safety of the driver thats the problem.

If you kill yourself doing something stupid then, well thats sad and all but you still did it.

Its the safety of the fans, other drivers, race staff etc.. what if a wheel went flying when he clipped that wall and hit a marshal or a fan?

Thankfully it didn't
