1. Hmm, well not exactly 'sites' I suppose 'groups' would be more accurate ;-) Groups for 'news' (hint). Please don't make me add that together haha-
Anyway, yeah x.264 is an extremely impressive codec.

2. No not all night. You could get the qualifying, buildup, race, and post race all together maybe 3-4gigs? What's that a couple of hours download on high speed internet?
And I hate to say but literally everyone that I have to talk to about F1 here in Seattle gets theirs over the uh 'groups for news'. Not because it's cheapest (it is free of course) but because it's easiest.

3. Um VHS? Seriously? Wow, props for well- tenacity if nothing else. Haha.
BTW, where are you watching it? Speed channel? Are they live or usually a few days after the actual race or something?

4. Yeah funny how Bernie loves some technologies and ignores others. I'd think he'd care about expanding his distribution network.
Maybe I should write him a letter.
Here in the US almost nobody watches F1. It isn't exactly 'pushed' over the airwaves. I heard it was on Speed channel but did several searches with different spellings, etc and never found anything. Seems all we get is stock cars and American Indy, motocross, etc, but nothing really to compare to F1.
But I'd think if he modernized his distribution he could double the audience (at least here) overnight. I know several people who are willing to pay for it who aren't paying now.

5. So if there aren't any legal sites to download the races from (actually kinda surprised, I'd think some site somewhere would be charging five or ten bucks a race or something, huh) are there at least some DVDs or something? I need to catch up a bit on the season. And please please don't tell me what's happening! It's taken some real 'blinders' to get this far in the forum without seeing any news.

6. BTW, what are live timings? You mean lap times?

Thanks for all the responses!

Why can't you just record the race's live to VHS like I have done for 25+yr's??

Not even DVD, but VHS!! People in Texas probably think a Blu Ray is some kind of aquatic mammal.

That's funny...

DVR to PC would be best, I need to try that.

Sounds like my hunt for the race edits on the F1 website. I'd love to have those in my collection.

Hmm I didn't bargain on there being more than 1 person from Texas on here.

Whomever asked if you can still buy blank VHS's, I saw some for sale the other day in Leeds student union. That could be a long treck for some people if you want some.

Hahaha... Most of us are quite knowledgeable, but I'm pretty damn sure there some folks who would fit in line with your comment

...and they're probably damn proud of it too.

I asked about the tapes :D I have a cupboard full of potentially blank tapes but I'm willing to bet most of them have either Star Trek/Stargate episodes on them.

Cool, thanks I'll check it out. BTW where did you find the schedule?
I did look but never saw F1, funny...

Hopefully F1 will be in HD from Abu Dhabi onwards.

You mean on the Speed channel right?
The videos posted are in HD so I just assumed the TV broadcasts were HD as well. Otherwise I'm totally curious where the videos come from.

First you need to know which weekend a race is on - this forum/website may be of help
Then find Speed TV in your cable channel lineup. I use the on-screen listing and since I know the approximate time (Seattle would be usually around 4:30), it's easy to find and click on record. Friday morning is P2, Saturday morning Q and Sunday morning the race itself. They also show F1 Debrief (previous race weekend summary and discussion) around midnight (on the east coast) on Friday and/or Saturday of a race weekend.

Oh now you can't be taping over the Trek!!! I prefer anything marked "Sister Act 2" or in last week's case "Little Voice". Just wish my DVD recorder wasn't in pieces due to a difference of opinion during the recording of Spa this year... bloody tragic.
