Personally, I feel that a Formula One game needs to be a racing simulation and not something more arcady. However, racing simulations are more of a niche market (not that small of a niche, but a niche nonetheless) that are a huge turn-off to many racing game fans, so I think the game should have some options to make the game more accessible to gamers that don't quite want the hardcore simulation experience. This way, the game can enjoy a broader appeal to fans all across the spectrum.
In defense of Codemasters, they're a fantastic studio that's made some fantastic products. Fans of racing simulations not enjoying their games doesn't make their games bad. It just means those games aren't for those particular people. Their games do have fans that absolutely love them and their games have earned high marks, and I stress the term "earned". An F1 game by Codemasters might not please the purists that want a hardcore simulation, but that won't make the game bad. No matter what form the final product takes, we can all rest assured it will be a great game earning high scores, even if it isn't the simulation that certain fans crave.
