Ultimately dont you think that if Ferrari even cared about how many of Bernies tickets Valencia sold (which i do not think they would) that they would put Alonso in the Ferrari seat?

 and BE would have a word with Flabio to see to it happening. :director:

i don't even think that Ferrari are primarily motivated by the publicity of having MS in the car. They already have a comprehensive publicity campaign, that is participating and succeeding in F1 in the first place. Ferrari would surely prioritise getting decent points and decent development feedback and they opted for the guy who is best for the job. I'm sure both Ferrari and Michael were aware of his injury but neither of them would have been able to tell for sure whether or not it was going to effect his ability to drive in Valencia until he tested the 2007 car. When else in his everyday life is going to have been exposed to the g forces?

Well not in his everyday life, but he's driven F1 cars for longer enough to suspect a neck injury may cause problems.

On paper he would be aware as would Ferrari that 'a neck injury' is going to be bad news for an F1 drive but he was only ever going to know whether or not his specific neck injury was going to cause him sufficient problems for him to not be able to race once he had tested it properly. He would have needed to feel it.

Then perhaps it should have been made clearer that the go ahead depended on his reaction to testing in cars and doctors advice rather than anouncing it pretty much as a done deal.

Ah well, its all academic now, cos he's not racing. Shame really, would have spiced Valencia up a bit.

I honestly believe Schumacher wanted to make a comeback and did his best. The problem was that the media, Schumacher's PR guys, and Ecclestone (intentionally, no doubt) lost perspective on the whole situation, failing to make clear that Schumacher's return was dependant on his health. At the moment, it still seems as though Schumacher would like to get back racing again, as he's not ruled out returning later on in the season, should his neck condition be improved, and neither has he ruled out coming back full-time in 2010, should the three-car rule get the green light (which I don't think will happen).

This.

Whilst it's obvious that Schumacher's return was partially financially motivated, it's more likely Ferrari wanted some guaranteed exposure for their sponsors than that they wanted to help sell tickets to Valencia/Spa. I mean, it's possible Bernie had a word, but unlikely.

One for the conspirathy (spl) people then this one. Maybe Schumacher is fit enough to drive but there is somethin in Kimi' scontract that says that Schuey will not drive along side him?!?

That is why Ferrari now feel as though they owe Schuey a drive so are pushing for a 3rd car for him next year. Only if they manage to buy Kimi out of his contract.

The Truth is out there
