I think Alonso should be applauded for being critical when he needs to be. Other drivers aren't allowed to say what they feel. He is sailing on a sinking ship atm.

Alonso is hedging his bets. He criticises Renault one week, and praises them the next. Either Renault are a bunch of no-hopers or have prospects of success.

Totally agree, he does do a fantastic job of that Renault, not what can be said for his teammate though, even though I know you would all hate this but if only Alonso and Hammy patched l this crap up then just maybe he should return to McLaren? Otherwise the only boat I can see that would make him the star he wants to be again, with the media attention and all the Tifosi and alonsomania co-joining, would be the Ferrari team!

I wouldn't mind seeing Alonso back at McLaren, but only as long as he gets no special status. However, I don't think Alonso would be willing to join under those terms.

I think Renault don't know themselves if their a bunch of no hopers or have prospects tbh. The team seem to be stumbling along.

Hmm, i disagree - had they rules stayed the same they would have been further up there as they were definitely making progress towards the end of '08, yet they just got caught out by the changes (like many teams really!). If they just had the sense/balls/whatever to actually get rid of Piquet once and for all...

As for Ferrari, i doubt Raikkonen will be off at the end of this season (no reason why he would be, his contract isn't up...) so i guess it'd be 2011 for Alonso.

Yes, but there is no defiance from the team. They remain very quiet. They realised the new rules would be coming, but sadly struggled due to the different perceptions. Now from my point of view they appear indecisive.

As a Renault fan it is very troubling. The team seem to lack direction, even under Alonso. I think they are resigned to the fact that he is off to Ferrari. However they have no long term strategy, maybe due to the fact that they do not know if the boardroom will cut off their supply.

Grojean is a talent, and he certainly will be with Renault in the future, but even then what could he do, if the team aren't delivering with the machinery.

As it appears Renault is going backwards rather than forwards at the moment. They need to defy this trend and try to change the direction the team is heading in. Need to try and defy the doubters that they can no longer fight for the title. The magic has gone quite frankly.

As for this season, there is still a long way to go... it did take Renault quite a long time before they got anywhere last season so it's entirely possible for the trend to be repeated this season! I think as Brawn have shown, it doesn't always matter on the amount of money, just how you spend it. Renault could find form, but it is true Alonso, like Schumacher before him offered the team its only chance to win and compete. Maybe that is how Enstone works?
In that case I say that when Alonso leaves they may need to galvanise and back the likes of Grojean to be their next contender. That is if Renault are still willing to fund its racing team.

But that isn't the case; Brawn's car was developed mainly with Honda's money from last season, this years Brawn probably had more money spent on it than any other car!

I suppose you are right, but on the other hand, Brawn's future budgets will be alot smaller. As is their running cost for this year. They can still bring updates to the car though.

I agree & disagree with what your saying there dude. I agree that Renault would have been right at the sharp end of the grid this year had the rules stayed moderately the same as they have been for several years. Alonso in Brazil was right on Massa's pace and finished a strong 2nd.

I disagree with letting Piquet go. He has recently shown some very good pace. 8th in Monaco would have been his had he not been taken out of the race by Buemi and in Turkey his move on Hamilton was brilliant, had his final pit stop been smooth he would have been directly behind if not ahead of Alonso.

It is true he has been a very expensive investment for the Renault team but he is starting to come good now. Hopefully I wont eat my own words but I expect to see him get off the mark in terms of points at Silverstone.

Aye. Such a waste of talent. It is fun listening to the announcers at speed fawn all over him when he drags that renault tractor into Q3 though.
