Read the full Ferrari statement on their intentions to quit Formula One if the proposed new FIA rules for 2010 are brought into effect.

"The Board of Directors (have) examined developments related to recent decisions taken by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile during an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council on 29 April 2009.

"Although this meeting was originally called only to examine a disciplinary matter, the decisions taken mean that, for the first time ever in Formula 1, the 2010 season will see the introduction of two different sets of regulations based on arbitrary technical rules and economic parameters.

"The Board considers that if this is the regulatory framework for Formula 1 in the future, then the reasons underlying Ferrari's uninterrupted participation in the World Championship over the last 60 years - the only constructor to have taken part ever since its inception in 1950 - would come to a close.

"The Board also expressed its disappointment about the methods adopted by the FIA in taking decisions of such a serious nature and its refusal to effectively reach an understanding with constructors and teams.

The rules of governance that have contributed to the development of Formula 1 over the last 25 years have been disregarded, as have the binding contractual obligations between Ferrari and the FIA itself regarding the stability of the regulations.

"The same rules for all teams, stability of regulations, the continuity of the FOTA's endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of Formula 1 are the priorities for the future.

"If these indispensable principles are not respected and if the regulations adopted for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter its cars in the next Formula 1 World Championship.

Ferrari trusts that its many fans worldwide will understand that this difficult decision is coherent with the Scuderia's approach to motor sport and to Formula 1 in particular, always seeking to promote its sporting and technical values.

"The Chairman of the Board of Directors was mandated to evaluate the most suitable ways and methods to protect the company's interests."

We're losing:

Big Red, BMW, Toyota, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, probably Renault.

We're keeping:

McLaren, Williams, Force India and Brawn.

We're potentially gaining:

US Formula 1 Team, Lola, Aston Martin/ProDrive, iSport, Unknown American Team (Penske/Andretti Green/Other), To-be-named Spanish Team and possibly more.

A net change of approximately...Zero.

Yeah, this isn't a big deal.

Ferrari are worth all the new teams combined! the new F1 is just going to be champcars of old! cheap and nasty series with a few manufacturers which will end up a spec series!

and i doubt McLaren will stay if Ferrari arent!

This is a big deal! No one knows how many of those new teams will actually be able to make the 2010 season. F1 will loose the vast proportion of the fans if those teams go and I doubt McLaren will stay in that sort of F1 they will go find something else to do probably setup a new series with Ferrari and co then as soon as that happens Williams, Brawn and Force India will shortly follow.

Bo****ks. This quit threat holds no water. Ferrari aren't going anywhere and if they did it is them who would regret it, not Formula 1 or the FiA.
#116775
Good. Get rid of the teams who think they are somehow bigger than the sport itself and only want to play by their rules and get in some new teams, new fans, fresh rules and revolutionise F1.

Ferrari were the only reason the first breakaway didnt go ahead. if they are keen dont you worry! the FIA can have Brawn Force India and Team America unfortunately Williams seems to be staying sad for them.

Ferrari validates F1. Without Ferrari, F1 is just another of the myriad international single seater race series'. I doubt they actually will pull out though, FOTA and the FIA will fudge something together between themselves.

McLaren will not walk out.

SHELL, a major sponsor of Ferrari, what is their take on this news.

Never mind Shell, what about Santander and Alonso - what about Massa and Raikkonen?

This is no threat I'm sure the teams are serious if the rules don't change then they will walk. They haven't said 'If the rules aren't changed we will have to reconsider are commitment to the sport' they have said 'We will leave if the rules are not changed' such a definite statement holds weight they would have to carry through or they will never be respected in negotiations again. Ferrari doesn't need F1 as much as people think neither do BMW, Renault, Mercedes, Red Bull and Toro Rosso. If Ferrari goes then FOM will probably loose a lot of it's TV and sponsorship contracts because a lot of them have clauses that certain teams must be in the sport such as Ferrari.
So tell me how the teams are going to regret it more than the FIA & FOM, the teams leave and start a new series or do something else or in the case of the manufactures do nothing and loose a bit of publicity, then you look at FIA & FOM they stand to loose the vast majority of their F1 fan base and all their revenues.
