The fact is McLaren are going down, so they should take as many people with them as possible. If Hamilton wants to leave, he should be brought back into the fold.

What is more worrying is that the FIA have broken the charges down into five sections. This means the penalties could be far more severe depending on how many of these charges Mclaren are found guilty of. Even in saying that, it looks impossible that Mclaren will escape without some sort of punishment.
A sad day. :(

The Charges are

Lied, Got Lewis to Lie, Carried on Lying until the second meeting, Lied at second meeting, Got Lewis to lie at second meeting.

I think what makes matters worse is that McLaren alway try to have a squeaky clean image, and that makes it worse. I am sure if it was another team that does not give the impression of being holier-than-tho (spl) would not make it as bad.

McLaren I am disappointed in you

I think if I was Mclaren I would be wondering how disloyal Hamilton could really be

I insist that the FIA has pushed this too far. They want to fook up McLaren and use them in the same way tribes hung their enemies bodies for all to see.

Shame for Dave Ryan.

Sucks for Mclaren too.

Dave Ryan might of been the guy to make the decision to lie, we just don't know!I would like to know what he opinion of the events are?

Awful news. Ryan has had a wonderful career and was a part of McLaren, so it's tragic to see it end like this. :crying: It's a shame Hamilton has got off much more lightly. :irked: The next thing that needs to happen is for Whitmarsh to either be sacked or demoted ( :( ) (the latter probably being the better choice at this stage) whenever a suitable candidate for Team Principle is found.

It is awful news. He was a loyal member of McLaren for many years and doesnt deserve this for one error of judgement.I imagine there is more than meets the eye to his "parting company".
If whitmarsh is to be sacked there is no successor, he has been groomed for this role for 20 years. That to me is also a tradgedy. I like that guy. If he goes, an outsider has to be found unless Ron steps back in.
Lewis "got off more lightly" maybe. If he was told to lie by a senior employee then I dont think he's got of lightly. The alternative is that Lewis asked Ryan to lie. Possible. Dissappointing if so. I don think that hapened. If it did, Ryan should have said categorically "NO!"

There's definitely an element of that in it. It's well-known that teams have lied in the past, the most famous example being Schumacher after Adelaide 1994-gate, Jerez 1997-gate and Monaco 2006-gate. All of those were much more serious than McLaren's offence and no serious action was taken. But McLaren have really got nobody to blame but themselves. Ryan and Hamilton, whilst their lying on the heat of the moment was forgiveable, continued to lie, and got away with doing so because Whitmarsh is guilty of one of the worst cases of mismanagement I can recall. And this fiasco comes only a few days after Dennis was round threatening Ecclestone with insurrection by FOTA - not that McLaren and Ecclestone (and the FIA) were on one another's Christmas card lists beforehand.

I think it was just a matter of the boss telling the employee what do say.

Some people here say "oh, he should've stuck to the truth, he's a cheater, a liar, etc., etc.". I suppose most of those people haven't been in a situation where your employer tells you to do or say anything, or else you're out of the job. Haven't happened to me personally, but I've seen it happen. It's a tough place to be in. And it's so easy to judge actions when you're not there...I hope none of the people here have to face a similar situation.

I'm not saying Hamilton did the right thing, but I can see how he felt pushed to do so. He's young, immature, and his comments reflect that, how uneasy he felt while doing what he was ordered to do.

I think you're absolutely right

Loosing Ryan is a big loss and if Martin went then it would be an even bigger loss which could be devastating for the team. I do feel like the team are protecting Hamilton but I don't think it was his idea to lie because his first reaction was obviously to give honest reports to the media. I find it hard to believe that Ryan could of been sacked unfairly because disgruntled ex employees have a tendency to bite back if they don't think the truth is out in the open, I know that they can make them sign contracts to keep them quiet but these contracts don't bind them forever. I feel like the FIA is trying to get McLaren to self-destruct before it gets to the court room once they get there then they will be hanged, drawn and quartered.

See it is this argument that Hamilton is "immature" that I can't agree with.
I'm alot younger than him, and I know better.

When I was Hamilton's age, and even younger, there were things I was sure I was doing right...And I was wrong. Everyone is different. There might be immature things you do that Hamilton himself would find childish and immature.

You have to learn to distinguish between making excuses and determining motives. I'm not making excuses for Hamilton, just stating what seems to have happened.
