I don't think they have anything to appeal. If lewis told them "he slowed down to read his display", and the radio recording said "slow down let Trulli past" then he has lied to the stewards, so they sits the judgement. He miss lead the Stewards. nothing to appeal

If you look at "Transcript of McLaren radio transmission" on autosport.com, you could say the "slow down let Trulli past" is negated by next exchange. "Stay ahead. We will get back to you. We are talking to Charlie." LH: I let him past. This is so ambiguous, did Trulli pass LH to regain 3rd position without Lewis really intending it. And for the race director to ask LH whether he had consciously allowed Trulli to overtake, I can see two points of view for Lewis. The stewards asked a gotcha question and either intent by Lewis or team would be misleading according to pre-determined rules of FIA. :bs:

A lot of the appeals from McLaren in the last few years have seemed futile from the start. And yet they still pursued them, I beleived because for their own integrity they need to show the public they do not agree with the decision. It seems crazy to me for Hamilton to get DQed over a post race misunderstanding and for them to just go "oh well".

Misunderstanding eih? They were specifically asked if a team order to let Trulli pass was given and they denied it. Hardly a misunderstanding now is it?

what does it matter if the told lewis to let him passed or not "he (trulli)should not have passed under a safety car unless hamilton had gone off the track which he did not"

The regulations actually state that they shouldn't pass unless the car they pass is pitting or slows with an obvious technical problem. Seeing as Trulli had no access to McLaren radio, all he could see was Hamilton slowing, and therefore went past. After Hamilton sped up, Jarno tried on three occasions to slow down and let Lewis pass him, but he didn't.

Would like to see transcripts of the meetings held with stewards.

Also, probably a silly question but why is it that the stewards who are in KL making this decision and not the ones who were at the original questioning in Oz?

That is what I thought.

i see ....but he never went to the pits or had a problem and all the cars were slowing down... if i can recall the brawn team kept tellin jenson to go faster ? so could someone had overtaken him?
I hope we dont end up like last year with the stewards making fools out of themselves every other week....
1st race and its going off again as rk and sv should not have been given any penalties also

There's slowing down to safety car pace, then there's slowing down to a snail's pace. If you don't have the information (in this case, McLaren radio transmissions) then you have to assume the guy in front has a problem. Otherwise, if you slow right down also, you could end up too far away from the safety car and end up penalised. Similarly, cars circulating the track too slowly can create safety issues - the tyres would end up even colder than they already were.

And Ross Brawn was telling Rubens to slow down because he was going faster than the minimum lap time that had been set for him.

I don't blame McLaren for not appealing, for them appealing to the FIA is about as successful as trying to break into Fort Knox.
