I have to get up at 3-4 a.m. almost the whole season (same for everyone along the west coast of the U.S.), for practice, qualifying, and the race. So I dont know why Bernie is so 'concerned' about the European viewers having to get up early like only twice. Thats b.s. if you ask me, the heat is supposed to be part of the challenge in Australia.

its because the biggest audience for f1 is europe. it boils down to getting the most money in.

what i don't get is, if the oz gp is on at 3am you get the die hard f1 fans getting up to watch it so they get there "eyes on adverts" then its repated again in the afternoon so you get the casual f1 fan watching it and most of the die hard fans will re-watch it to go over any incidents, relive a overtake or whatever, so you get more "eye's on adverts"

Surely thats more money for FOM, than just the afternoon race then the highlights at 11pm.

it don't matter too much now with the Uk since the beeb :D has got it but for the rest of europe i imagine they operated the same as ITV did.

Most advertisers are not interested in repeats of sporting events. They assume that most people will watch the event live and so that is where there stuff can be seen by the most people. Advertising slots for repeats do not sell for as much money

i've never had a problem getting up early on sat/sun morning there's a sense of occasion to it all.

I agree, I like waking up at 3 am just to catch the race. It adds to the atmosphere and you know that the F1 season has started.

Sometimes a drink of Crown Royal in the early a.m. hours is not half bad.

Luckily with the BBC this year, I'm sure that they will have a red button service to view at least highlights of the race.
Erm, as well as this, after the race if you hit the red button we'll get a little Grand Prix "Extra" with more round up and 'banter' should fun.

Of course if you miss all that, the GP will be available for a short time on the Iplayer. SO NO EXCUSES.

Or you could just SKY + :P

I've seen every F1 race since the beginning of the 1989 season and, yes, I used to get up at 4:30 am for all those 4:50AM
(US pacific time) starts but not any-more. Now my friends and I either Tivo or simply download the race and watch commercial free at our leisure. Big one finger salute to uncle Bernie :D
