Why not change it so that you only win points by finishing fifth - can you imagine the carnage!

I agree with Bernie's idea about drivers not risking their position to get two points and settle for 2nd. It would be better if there was more to gain, so should perhaps give more points for a win, also maybe a point for pole and for fastest lap.

Bernie's point is valid that drivers seem to settle for second place rather than pushing for the win. Everyone here is getting a kick out of seeing Bernie not getting his own way but I'm for any measure that would increase the racing spectacle. Bernie's medal system would do that (but we can scrap the medals and stick with trophies)

The only changes I'd be willing to see would be a win being made worth 11 points. The idea of medals and what have you is absolutely laughable. Let's just say Formula One entered a period like the Schumacher days when only one team was organised enough to win the championships. Ecclestone would be moaning for the old points system to be brought back to extend the life of the title fight.

Nope ... another 2 who are past their sell by date and egomaniacs - you will have to do better than that !!!

Anyway I see that Bernie is on the rant again - the more he goes on the more he appears to have lost the plot and the more nonsensical his arguments seem to become. Not a good advertisement for F1 in any form or manner.

It should be 12-8-6-5-4-3-2-1

No points for fastest lap. Because then it raises the idea of Point for Pole etc etc.

The gold medal idea seems a bit Mickey Mouse to me but Bernie does make a good point. F1 should be about winning (as should all motorsports).
I would like to see a gold medal (or whatever) awarded for winning a race but I think that the present point system should also be kept in place. The championship should be awarded to whoever has won the most races. This may well result in the champion having less points than the person who finishes 2nd but the focus would be on winning each race rather than going for points. The regular point system would be used for breaking ties and also to give the lesser teams some bragging rights.
