As an American that loves F1 racing these rule changes are quite disappointing and disturbing. I pains me to say that it looks like F1 is going to become the global version of NASCAR which is enough to make me sick. Next thing you know they are going to be running on ovals.

I thought that racing was about getting a group of people together with similar vehicles to see who could go the fastest. I say lets give them back a true slick tire without these stupid grooves, let them develop the best engines they can, let the engineers put the best aero setup on the car they can think of and then stick some great divers in the cockpits and see how fast they can get the car around the track! If you don't have the money to compete then sell some more cars or race less like Audi and Honda. Nobody has ever said racing isn't expensive.

But the way the BIG 3 Detroit firms are going, there will only be Camry's circuling in nascar next season :S:S:S

Also welcome to the board, I haven't heard from you before.
Formula One is back to slicks in 2009. And after today the teams WILL get to make their own engines if needed, but only if they run on the same spef grrr.

Now, THAT's an innovative idea: F1 under water - should do well in coastal areas :P

Slicks are coming in 2009, so there...

Cutting cost?......do you guys think that those changes are going to make anything better? or cheaper? oh well,....instead of spendind 100million$ you spend 70 million$ which is already to much for small teams anyways

.............My suggestion: 1.-DONT stop or limit research,........anything against that is just plain stupid, it takes away the real heart of Formula 1 and standard parts? oh yeah tires! that is it

2.-Do you want lower costs? ruling a season lasting engine and gearbox, should you change them, then 10 positions/places back.......a V6 engine, no limit in revs.....using regular fuel..........(my whole point is to make the engines closer to those you see on the street, just like in the old days benefiting regular street tech)..............if a V6 engine isnt powerful enough, then change it to electric........it would be interesting to see that, and plus would set an example

3.-Warmup Saturday Aftenoon, Qualifying Sunday Morning and race sunday afternoon.......if it is better to have qualifying saturdays in the afternoon for TV audiences,...well let it be, but keep a total of 3 sessions during the weekend.......

4.- Bigger slice in TV revenues for teams

5.- There was a time when it was said to change the tires for a one type/multi purpose tyre.....just like the ones you see in regular street cars.....I dont like the Idea, but it will lower costs greatly......I dont care.....

limiting aero developement and reducing revs are the best 2 ideas here for cutting costs,

Not factoring in the cost of the refuling rig (which the teams already own) banning refueling will increase the amount of fuel the cars use as they've got more weight to move around to start with, so therefore increasing costs ! i think the refuling ban might be due to some of the accidents that they had this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if they go back to allowing refuling a couple of years later after they realise it's a stupid idea :) (just like they did with tyres a few years ago)

On the other hand, you could argue the opposite: BECAUSE they'll have to carry the entire fuel around, innovative engineering will be focused on fuel consumption, which then saves fuel and money (plus might translate into fuel savings in production cars).

Formula 1 looks like it is about to become Formula shlt! I know the times are tough but didn't something similar happen in 1987. A recession? But the cars of that time and the years that followed had little restrictions. Anyway this isn't looking too good. As is the situation with GM and Chrysler. The stupid US Senate rejected the bailout bid. I am sure they will eventually pass this and save the manufacturing giants, but if they were to actually go down the consequences would be terrible. Well beyond comprehension. And that is an understatement. As is stands now if the US government doesn't intervene GM will not survive the coming Christmas! Even if you love Ford and hate GM, you should be praying that GM and Chysler are saved as any collapse will be felt even by surving Ford, and the ripples will even hit F1 in one form or another, despite GM nor Chrysler having a presence in F1.

:(

bad times

i think next year is seriously going to be the last year i watch f1

theres will be no point having a constructors championship, ah well all good things come to an end! Its not so bad if u support drivers only, but for me and many others, this is gonna suck!!

hope next year can be good!

It may not be what we all would like F1 to be - but at the end of the day if this is whats needed to ensure f1 survives into the future then so be it.
When one of the largesstr car companys in the world decides that it is to expensive to compete you know something is wrong.
Bring on the changes so i can enjoy Formula one in the future with my child

This limit on research just doesn't sound right.

Isn't F1 supposed to be THE pinnacle of automotive engineering?

Why don't the teams receive more money from TV and limit the drivers salaries?

So, teams will cut jobs at the factories, but will still pay 20m a driver each season?

AMEN!!......Limiting research is nonsense.......infact FIA already does that with aero specs,.......moreover, dont you guys remember when tyrrel came up with this side wings? then banned by FIA bcause they were ugly!...........aero limits are there.

and Amen again with driver's pay.........you sack some hard working man, who does research, inventing new ways for power, speed, fuel comsuption, efficiency and so on, that would benefit street cars at the end with those innoventions.........well,.....it doesnt seem right :(

They will have to pay those driver salaries as with the job cuts in the team, there will be more possibilities for snafus and thus, the drivers' job will get more dangerous :P:twisted::whip:
Bloody hell, I wanna see blood and those mofos need to be paid well to spill theirs for us :director::twisted::twisted:

That's something even Bernie couldn't think up.
