As much as it will be sad to see Barrichello (and Button) be made redundant, they've got plenty of money. The people working at the factory are on a tiny fraction of what they are earning, so they will be the ones who suffer most. Hopefully somebody puts forward a viable deal that can keep the team going.

So technically I could buy some of Honda F1 now?

The whole thing. I don't reccomend it though. It's not exactly a going concern.

I disagree with a class system. Again purely because it is more Sportscars than single seaters.
Sure they use it in the likes of Formula 3 etc but this is Formula 1, it would be turning back the clock. There are other methods.

This is a disaster! It really makes me worry about Formula One's stability if a team like Honda is pulling out for financial reasons.

I'll have more to say once all of the details have become clear. I'd like to hear Bernie/Max/drivers/other teams views on this first.

Super Aguri in April, and now Honda. I really hope this is where it ends for the moment. In contrast to the financial markets and auto industry, it seems that the domino effect rules the day. I also heard that Audi is dropping the development of their R15 for LMS. At some point all of motor sport or racing could be in jeapordy of changing radically from what we know today.. I hope everyone gives or sacrifices as much as they can prior to closing their doors, but its a long way until March. Thats what scares me....

I'm happy enough with customers cars but I don't feel they should be allowed to compete for the constructors' title. Therefore, a class system seems a good compromise. They'll have their own title to compete for against teams similar to themselves. It only seems fair to me.

I do agree with what you said earlier about Ecclestone. The amount of money he has been taking from the sport is unbelievable. I really don't know how he got away with taking a 77% cut of the revenue for so long! Many of the teams simply did not and still do not realise the power they wield and have allowed themselves to fall victim to Ecclestone and Mosley's divide-and-rule tactics, aided and abetted by Ferrari.

And these revenues are key to allow new teams to survive. And even the old ones.
Mclaren and Ferrari are the only teams truely financially secure at the moment. Thats worrying. 18 cars will be terrible.
Customer cars will probably have to be introduced now. It would make sense to allow them to fight for their own mini constructors title. I wouldn't like it as i've said.
But as I've mentioned earlier I'd have to accept it - it's either that or no sport.

Seems Honda is sitting on the press release for a few hours. It's gone 10AM in Tokyo and they've yet to come out and say it.

Could even be that they're going to release it at the end of the day, to minimise effect on their share price.

But that's a waste of time since everyone already knows

You think they'll dump it in early afternoon trading?

So, hands up, who wants to buy them?

Yeah...Me neither

I honestly wasnt expecting this...at all. I mean it just doesnt make any sense because they were testing their '09 car so why would they just leave? This is a real sad day for F1.

This is very true. All that promise of 09 and how they would be the furthest ahead with KERS. All that talk of signing Alonso on a massive deal, or Brawn's revolution. All wasted. I hope someone step in, they could potentially have a very efficent outfit for next year on their hands.

one way to get more cars on the grid if Honda officially announces they will pull out will be to allow teams to have 3 cars instead of 2. The 3rd car allowing additional sponsors to help fund running costs kinda like the Americans.

Honda, ever thought of the sponsors?
