Next season is a biggie for Kovalainen. He can have no excuses, for instance, being new to the McLaren setup etc.. I really hope he does put all the pieces together next season. He clearly has the speed and ability, so I hope it comes to fruition.

He does need to get his stuff together, but McLaren has to give him a more competitive car.

No. They pushed Kovi aside, just like they did to Alonso last year.

But hey, you can think otherwise.

Kovalainen has only himself to blame for not being in title contention. Despite the best efforts of everybody at McLaren, he wasn't up to standard. Initially, he could afford to run heavier fuel strategies than Hamilton because he generally took less out of his tyres. His race pace, however, was poor because he took a lot out of his rear tyres. As a result, he could not be given the shorter-fuel strategy, for he would not have the race pace to build up a sufficient lead for the first round of pit stops. Hamilton, though, did have the race pace to build up a sufficient gap so as not to be passed in the pits. Then, as the season progressed, Hamilton got on top of his tyre problem by changing his driving style. Kovalainen, on the other hand, was not able to. What does that tell you?

Nothing. :P

Well, what it tells me is that there is a big difference in skill between Hamilton and Kovalainen at the minute. The fact is that Kovalainen was creamed convincingly by McLaren this season. When you driver for a team as great as McLaren, you have to produce better than that.

Alonso was given equal equipment and strategies. Kovi has not been fast enough in race conditions
