Mark Hughes talks a lot of sense, but he always writes about one particular thing as if it is the thing. Not even two weeks ago he said the reason for McLaren's surge in form was due to their torque adjusting system, even though the team had it all season. The truth of the matter is that McLaren have made lots of tiny alterations to the MP4-23 and these combined are the reason for the team's improvement. What Hughes says about slightly reducing the front-end grip on the MP4-23 is extremely plausible and it reflects well on Hamilton, showing that he is able to adapt his driving style very quickly and still produce the goods. That is one sign of a good driver (cf. David Coulthard's lies).

It's as simple as this:

Ferrari shot themselves in the foot at Silverstone by not changing tyres, Raikkonen had caught Hamilton up so they can't have been too slow. Everyone knows this already.

In Germany Ferrari supposedly had a setup issue that had a knock on effect on the tyres. i found on article on one of my regular F1 sites, but can't find it right now. :-? This, coupled to Hamilton's (not McLaren's) immense pace would make things seem a lot worse than they are.

sounds like that analysis came from Ferrari's perspective....

The setup/tyres thing in Germany? Yup, the article was a Q&A with one of the Ferrari team or something... and Massa allegedly had brake issues too. Not sure i believe either, Hamilton just had it completely hooked up imo. At the same time, it'd be crazy to think Ferrari had suddenly lost it!
